The Great Mediator - Jesus Christ

Please take a moment to read this. The Savior is our advocate with the Father, and how must he plead to the Father in our behalf. And this so that through prayer we may be comforted in trials, may be forgiven, and may return back to the presence of the Father, all by the power of the Atonement. Lehi spoke to his sons of looking to the Savior, the Great Mediator.

"And now, my sons, I would that ye should look to the great Mediator, and hearken unto his great commandments; and be faithful unto his words, and choose eternal life, according to the will of his Holy Spirit; "

May we all look to the Great Mediator, even Christ, who makes intercession for us with the Father, and so gain eternal life again with him.

Black Lamb

"No one is perfect. We do things...wrong, and then feel terrible about it. The way to get over it is to turn to the Savior. Knowing that the Lord compared Himself to a shepherd, who would willingly leave his other ninety-nine sheep to find the one that is lost, tells us that each individual — no matter who they are or what they did — is important to Him.

The setting of Black Lamb is in the area around the Sea of Galilee. A young lamb as this one, if lost, would surely die. Similarly, if we lose our spiritual way, we will not return to our Father in Heaven. Instead however, this once-lost lamb is going home, back to the fold, where it will be safe and loved." -Del Parson, artist of this picture, Black Lamb

Silent Night

"And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger" (Luke 2:7). Over 2000 years ago, the Savior was born in a lowly stable, watched over by the angels of heaven. This great church is a continuation of his life and mission, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. May we all take the opportunity to be grateful this time of year for the Blessings we have because of the Life of the Savior, commemorated at Christmastime. His love did not just begin at his birth. It reaches from before the foundations of the World and into the eternities and beyond. Please take the time to thank our Father in Heaven for the Life, atonement, death, resurrection, and work of the Savior, for "[He is] the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/14.6?lang=eng#5 )

The Christmas Shelf - A Story

A few years ago I wrote a Christmas Story called The Christmas Shelf. It is about a Family who seems to have lost their way, but who find it again after each person separately and together have some experiences with items on a small Christmas shelf (how they got there is alluded to). They learn to feel the spirit they once felt in their lives, and finally (not saying how) find the true meaning of Christmas.  You can find the full text of the story here http://bit.ly/12o12dv
Here is a quote from the Story:

"She sat for awhile and thought about that night long ago. There was a longing in her, one that seemed to be filled when she thought of the Babe in Bethlehem. She smiled when she thought that the Savior had been just like each of her children once, young and helpless. How it would have been to see and to hold that sacred child on that night. He was no doubt being watched over by a Heavenly Father who loved her enough to send his only son to save each of hers. "

It is a gift I give to each of you this Christmas Season. You can find the full text of the story here http://bit.ly/12o12dv

I hope you like the story,

The Spirit of Christmas

"When we have the spirit of Christmas, we remember Him whose birth we commemorate at this season of the year: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11)...What gifts would the Lord have me give to Him or to others at this precious season of the year?...In this marvelous dispensation of the fulness of times, our opportunities to love and give of ourselves are indeed limitless, but they are also perishable. Today there are hearts to gladden, kind words to say, deeds to be done, and souls to be saved." As Little Children, alive in Christ..

May we all become as little children, alive in Christ, trusting him and taking joy in the smallest of God's creations. "But little children are alive in Christ, even from the foundation of the world." (Moroni 8:12). And in the new testament we read "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3 ). The Plates, and their translation

The Translation of the Book of Mormon was a miracle. From the scribe, Oliver Cowdery; “These were days never to be forgotten—to sit under the sound of a voice dictated by the inspiration of heaven, awakened the utmost gratitude of this bosom! Day after day I continued, uninterrupted, to write from his mouth, as he translated with the Urim and Thummim, or, as the Nephites would have said, ‘Interpreters,’ the history or record called ‘The Book of Mormon.’

Sacred Grove - The First Vision

Plz share this account of the First Vision, of what the future prophet saw when he prayed. "I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.

It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. Mormons in Monterey Join an interfaith effort to Feed Hungry at Thanksgiving

My niece, who is a Missionary in this area, helped with the Church in this Interfaith service providing meals to thousands of people for Thanksgiving. There is a video with the article which shows what happened. Here are my niece's words as she wrote home about this. "This morning we went and worked with a local Baptist Church and made Thanksgiving food baskets for almost 2,000 people....First time wearing jeans for a while! It was neat though! We're helping again tomorrow and have several thousand pounds of frozen turkeys to unload. It'll be a good time!!"

Journey to Bethlehem

The Christmas story began long before the Savior's Birth. "And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed...And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child" (Luke 2:1-5 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/2.1-5?lang=eng#primary )

Come Unto Me

The Savior said "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30 http://bit.ly/15li8b6 )

The Gentle Christ

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. And behold, I am the light and the life of the world..." (3 Nephi 11:10-11 http://bit.ly/12Rtrnb). The Savior also said

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:29-30 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/11.29-30?lang=eng#28 ). May we all come to know the love of the Savior of our souls, have him take our burdens, and in him find rest.

The Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount

So peaceful are the words of the Beatitudes, from the Sermon on the Mount.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." (The Sermon on the Mount is in Matthew 5-7 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/5 )

We are Children of God...Suffer little children

May we remember two things about ourselves and little children. The Savior said:

"Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

And, now that we are grown, may we all remember that we are as little children when compared to the understanding of the Lord, and often all we have to do to follow him is to reach out and take his hand.

"The Son of Man hath descended below them all..."

If we pour our hearts out to our Father in Heaven, in the name of Christ, through the power of the Atonement, and through the spirit, he can and will lift us.

The Savior is there to comfort and lift us. In the horrible trial Liberty Jail, the Lord comforted the prophet Joseph by saying

"know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.

The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he?"

The Greatest of all will never let us suffer more than we are able, but will lift us and comfort us. May we ever be grateful for that.

Did not our hearts burn within us

"And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?"

May we our hearts burn within us as we follow the Savior's words in our own lives, and as the scriptures are opened to us by reading or by the Lord's servants.

Strength of Israel

Christ is the Strength of Israel. On him hinges the entire plan of salvation, and through him and his servants the gospel will be preached to every creature, according to his commandments.

Mark 16:5 says "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."

Before the last day, every person who will or has ever lived upon the earth will have the chance to be blessed with the promises of the house of Israel.

We are all engaged in this great work. As the Prophet Joseph Smith said, "shall we not go on in so great a cause? Go forward and not backward. Courage, brethren; and on, on to the victory! Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad. Let the earth break forth into singing. Let the dead speak forth anthems of eternal praise to the King Immanuel, who hath ordained, before the world was, that which would enable us to redeem them out of their prison; for the prisoners shall go free." (D & C 128:22 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/128.22)

The Prisoners will be freed, all made possible by the power of the Atonement.

Believe in God, Believe that he is...

"Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend. And again, believe that ye must repent of your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves before God; and ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you; and now, if you believe all these things see that ye do them" (Mosiah 4:9-10https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/mosiah/4.9-10?lang=eng#8 )

From all eternity to all eternity, even Jesus Christ

"Hearken and listen to the voice of him who is from all eternity to all eternity, the Great I Am, even Jesus Christ—The light and the life of the world; a light which shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehendeth it not." As the Savior followed the Father in all things, even to Gethsemane and Golgotha, may we similarly follow the Savior in all things we may be called to go through, and to have the spirit to be with us for time, and to live in the presence of God and the Lamb for all eternity.
