The Woman at the Well

Said the Savior to the woman at the well; "Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

The Savior and the woman speak some more, and later..."The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he."

Such a wonderful passage.  You may watch the Church Bible video of it by going here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zF7ma1yoLNk

Christ Appearing in the Americas

Read more about Christ appearing in the Americas here https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11.6-10?lang=eng#5 ) "And behold, the third time they did understand the voice which they heard; and it said unto them: Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him. And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them.  And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying:  Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.  (3 Nephi 11:6-10 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11.6-10?lang=eng#5 )

The work for our Dead

Instead of a video today, here is a link to an article about Family History called "Family History brings Power to the Living." The Prophet Joseph Smith said we cannot be saved without our dead. Those family members who have gone on before who are set free by the miracle of vicarious temple ordinances are enlisted in the work of the Lord, and bless the lives of those here on earth and beyond the veil. See how you can help with the work of the Lord at https://new.familysearch.org/ . Get a username and prayerfully ask the Lord how you can help in this great work.

Families can be Together Forever

Our loved ones who have gone on before can be welcomed home into the Savior's arms through the gospel of Jesus Christ, even though we feel sadness and pain when they leave us.

And because of the Atonement of the Savior, we can be together again with them, our Father in Heaven, and Savior, Jesus Christ.  In the words of the familiar children's song...

"I have a family here on earth
they are so good to me
I want to share my life with them
through all eternity.

Families can be together forever
Through Heavenly Father's Plan
I always want to be with my own family
And the Lord has shown me how I can"

Picture is "The Arrival" by Jon Mcnaughton

Eternal Families

"..life at home is a series of small things that combine to create an eternal family." May we remember this at this time of year when we miss our loved ones who have gone on before us. The mission and vision of this great work makes it possible for us to be together forever in the presence of God. Such a wonderful comfort (Quote from Virginia O Jensen, October 2000 General Conference).

Hope - The King of Kings and Lord of Lords

"With the birth of the babe in Bethlehem, there emerged a great endowment—a power stronger than weapons, a wealth more lasting than the coins of Caesar. Hope on the Horizon

"He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New. Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth. “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3)...We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary. He was the Firstborn of the Father, the Only Begotten Son in the flesh, the Redeemer of the world...Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God...He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come." In His Constant Care

The message is the artist's notes, Greg Olsen.

"This painting is a visual reminder of one of His most comforting messages regarding the worth of each individual soul. “Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:6-7)

As I look at the intricate design of these little sparrows, experience tells me that where there is a design, there is a designer! It is a comforting thought to consider that somewhere there is a Creator who is aware of and has love for even the least of His creations. There is incredible intimacy in the vastness of this thought."

For the Blessings of Liberty

Captain Moroni and the Title of Liberty.  What a powerful passage of scripture this is.  "And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it—In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children—and he fastened it upon the end of a pole. And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the title of liberty) and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land—" (Alma 46:12-13 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/46.12-13?lang=eng#11 ).  Picture is For The Blessings of Liberty by Scott Snow.

Christ in the Americas

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.  And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning" (3 Nephi 11:10-11 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11?lang=eng )

I Saw a Pillar of Light...

It all began with a boy's humble prayer.  "I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!" (Joseph Smith-History 1:16-17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1.16-17?lang=eng#15 )

That They Might Not Suffer...

Because of Jesus Christ, our tender-hearted older brother's Sacrifice, we can return back to the presence of our Father in Heaven again. "For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent; But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I; Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink— Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men."

From all eternity to all eternity - Even Jesus Christ

"Hearken and listen to the voice of him who is from all eternity to all eternity, the Great I Am, even Jesus Christ—The light and the life of the world; a light which shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehendeth it not." As the Savior followed the Father in all things, even to Gethsemane and Golgotha, may we similarly follow the Savior in all things we may be called to go through, and to have the spirit to be with us for time, and to live in the presence of God and the Lamb for all eternity.

The Standard of Truth has been erected...

Our Savior, Jesus Christ is the author of this great Latter-Day Work, restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith.  “The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing, persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny many defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited very clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.”

Even the Savior of the World needs a Mother, too.

In the words of a song "Even the Savior of the World Need a Mother, too.  He Loves You" (speaking of mothers).   Mothers, surely the Savior of the World, who knows the thoughts and intents of the heart, knows and loves you for what you do for his children.

From Sr. Dew "Motherhood is more than bearing children, though it is certainly that. It is the essence of who we are as women. It defines our very identity, our divine stature and nature, and the unique traits our Father gave us."

"There is no other joy like a mother finds in the faith of her child." From the Song "No Greater Joy," by Lyndsi Housekeeper.

Hands of Heaven on Earth - Mothers

The relief society teaches that the women in our lives are the hands of heaven on earth, and there is no phrase more descriptive I can think of than that to describe the mothers in our lives.  May we realize the divine nature they have, and show the love to our mothers that the Savior would show to them if he were here.  For they are righteously raising his children.  And to those who have no children.  You make such wonderful contributions, and the Lord has promised that if you don't have children here, you will in the next, and that no blessing will be witheld from you in the eternities.

From President Hinckley "wherever you may live, may the windows of heaven be opened and blessings come down upon you. May you live with love one for another. May you reach down to lift up those whose burdens are heavy. May you bring light and beauty to the world and particularly into your homes and into the lives of your children.
You know as I do that God our Eternal Father lives. He loves you. You know as I do that Jesus is the Christ, His immortal Son, our Redeemer. You know that the gospel is true and that heaven is near if we will cultivate it in our lives.”

When he comes In His Glory

Are we willing to give everything to the Lord, to make our desires his desires, to give all we can to his work, so that when he comes in his Glory, we will be like him? We may never be asked to sell all that we have, like the rich man, but do we devote all we are to the Savior? "Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me" (Luke 18:22 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/18.22?lang=eng#21 )

For All Mankind...

The scriptures are full of references that the Savior is the Savior of the whole earth.  What a wonderful reminder of that.  His declaration that he is over all and his charge to take the Gospel to others still echoes to us now.  "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."  May all of us share the gospel more freely with all, respectfully and lovingly.  The increase in missions helps the Lord fulfill this charge as many more go out to serve, in whatever place they may be in.

Behold your little ones...We are children of God

Christ blessing the Children in the Book of Mormon.  May we remember that we are all children of God, and we should become as little children.  "and he took their little children, one by one, and blessed them, and prayed unto the Father for them.  And when he had done this he wept again; And he spake unto the multitude, and said unto them: Behold your little ones.  And as they looked to behold they cast their eyes towards heaven, and they saw the heavens open, and they saw angels descending out of heaven as it were in the midst of fire; and they came down and encircled those little ones about, and they were encircled about with fire; and the angels did minister unto them" (3 Nephi 17:20-24 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/17.20-24?lang=eng#19 ).  Picture is Behold Your Little Ones by Del Parson.

The Mount of Transfiguration

You may have the spirit of the Lord with you as you pour out your hearts to the Father in his name. This is the Mount of Transfiguration. A sacred account with the Savior and some of the early apostles. "And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus...And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. and suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead." May we all be grateful that because of the Atonement of the Savior, families can be together forever, and those sacred ties extend into the eternities.  For those who are single and don't have families of your own, you will still be able to have a family in this life or the next.  No blessing will be witheld from you in the eternities if you live worthily in this life.  If you are viewing this by email, click the title link to be taken to where you may view this.

The Redeemer of the World

The Love of the Savior is only a prayer away, as we pour out our hearts to the Father in his name.  From the Apostles "We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary. He was the Firstborn of the Father, the Only Begotten Son in the flesh, the Redeemer of the world...We bear testimony, as His duly ordained Apostles—that Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God. He is the great King Immanuel, who stands today on the right hand of His Father. He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come."
