Journey to Bethlehem

The Christmas story began long before the Savior's Birth. "And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed...And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child" (Luke 2:1-5 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/2.1-5?lang=eng#primary )

Come Unto Me

The Savior said "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30 http://bit.ly/15li8b6 )

The Gentle Christ

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. And behold, I am the light and the life of the world..." (3 Nephi 11:10-11 http://bit.ly/12Rtrnb). The Savior also said

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:29-30 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/11.29-30?lang=eng#28 ). May we all come to know the love of the Savior of our souls, have him take our burdens, and in him find rest.

The Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount

So peaceful are the words of the Beatitudes, from the Sermon on the Mount.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." (The Sermon on the Mount is in Matthew 5-7 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/5 )

We are Children of God...Suffer little children

May we remember two things about ourselves and little children. The Savior said:

"Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

And, now that we are grown, may we all remember that we are as little children when compared to the understanding of the Lord, and often all we have to do to follow him is to reach out and take his hand.

"The Son of Man hath descended below them all..."

If we pour our hearts out to our Father in Heaven, in the name of Christ, through the power of the Atonement, and through the spirit, he can and will lift us.

The Savior is there to comfort and lift us. In the horrible trial Liberty Jail, the Lord comforted the prophet Joseph by saying

"know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.

The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he?"

The Greatest of all will never let us suffer more than we are able, but will lift us and comfort us. May we ever be grateful for that.

Strength of Israel

Christ is the Strength of Israel. On him hinges the entire plan of salvation, and through him and his servants the gospel will be preached to every creature, according to his commandments.

Mark 16:5 says "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."

Before the last day, every person who will or has ever lived upon the earth will have the chance to be blessed with the promises of the house of Israel.

We are all engaged in this great work. As the Prophet Joseph Smith said, "shall we not go on in so great a cause? Go forward and not backward. Courage, brethren; and on, on to the victory! Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad. Let the earth break forth into singing. Let the dead speak forth anthems of eternal praise to the King Immanuel, who hath ordained, before the world was, that which would enable us to redeem them out of their prison; for the prisoners shall go free." (D & C 128:22 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/128.22)

The Prisoners will be freed, all made possible by the power of the Atonement.

"Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend. And again, believe that ye must repent of your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves before God; and ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you; and now, if you believe all these things see that ye do them" (Mosiah 4:9-10https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/mosiah/4.9-10?lang=eng#8 )

From all eternity to all eternity, even Jesus Christ

"Hearken and listen to the voice of him who is from all eternity to all eternity, the Great I Am, even Jesus Christ—The light and the life of the world; a light which shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehendeth it not." As the Savior followed the Father in all things, even to Gethsemane and Golgotha, may we similarly follow the Savior in all things we may be called to go through, and to have the spirit to be with us for time, and to live in the presence of God and the Lamb for all eternity.

Well Done Thou Good and Faithful Servant

Can we imagine at the end of our lives, being welcomed back to our heavenly home, into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ, to dwell with him and our Father in Heaven together with our families forever? May he say unto us, as in the parable of the talents;

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." (Matthew 25:23 http://bit.ly/15yZetf )

And in the Book of Mormon "Yea, verily I say unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those who come unto me " (3 Nephi 9:14 http://bit.ly/17A6NCE )

Saviors on Mount Zion...My Presence shall be there...

President Hinckley has said that the work we do for the dead in the Temple is the closest we can come to the Sacrifice the Savior made for us, because we are doing things for others that they cannot do for themselves. We become Saviors on Mount Zion.

The Temple is the House of The Lord, where we can go to feel of his presence.

"And inasmuch as my people build a house unto me in the name of the Lord, and do not suffer any unclean thing to come into it, that it be not defiled, my glory shall rest upon it;

Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God" (D & C 97:15-16 http://bit.ly/14GTNd6 )

The First Vision

Plz share this account of the First Vision. "I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.

It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!"

Ammon Defends the King's Flocks

Ammon defends the flocks of the King. "they knew not that the Lord had promised Mosiah that he would deliver his sons out of their hands; neither did they know anything concerning the Lord; therefore they delighted in the destruction of their brethren; and for this cause they stood to scatter the flocks of the king.

But Ammon stood forth and began to cast stones at them with his sling; yea, with mighty power he did sling stones amongst them; and thus he slew a certain number of them insomuch that they began to be astonished at his power; nevertheless they were angry because of the slain of their brethren, and they were determined that he should fall; therefore, seeing that they could not hit him with their stones, they came forth with clubs to slay him.

But behold, every man that lifted his club to smite Ammon, he smote off their arms with his sword; for he did withstand their blows by smiting their arms with the edge of his sword, insomuch that they began to be astonished, and began to flee before him; yea, and they were not few in number; and he caused them to flee by the strength of his arm." The Book of Mormon and the Bible

Please share this. read the promise of the Book of Mormon online now at http://bit.ly/10t8QYm Find out for yourself what the Book of Mormon is. The Bible is a record of God's dealings with the Jews.  The Book of Mormon is a record of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas. From the title page, it is "to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations"

Prophets were told by God what to include in the book for us in our day. Moroni says "Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing."

For God to know what we would need to know in our day makes the Book of Mormon a priceless gift. May we read it prayerfully as we read the Bible.

The Liahona - Modern Day Liahonas

"And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld the pointers which were in the ball, that they did work according to the faith and diligence and heed which we did give unto them. And there was also written upon them a new writing, which was plain to be read, which did give us understanding concerning the ways of the Lord; and it was written and changed from time to time, according to the faith and diligence which we gave unto it. And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things." (1 Nephi 16:28-29 http://bit.ly/1a3g8bb )

Christ appears to the People of the Book of Mormon

"And behold, the third time they did understand the voice which they heard; and it said unto them: Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him. And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them" (3 Nephi 11:6-8 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11.6-8?lang=eng#5 )

These passages bring such peace, as we read the Savior's words as he taught his New Testament Gospel to the Saints in the Americas, healed their sick, and blessed them and their children. The Faith of Abinadi

Please take a moment to read and share.  May we all have the Faith of Abinadi, whose one and only Convert, Alma, brought many to the gospel, and later brought Alma the Younger and the Sons of Mosiah to the knowledge of the truth, who then brought many of the Lamanites to the truth.

When Abinadi testified of the truth, "they stood forth and attempted to lay their hands on him; but he withstood them, and said unto them:

Touch me not, for God shall smite you if ye lay your hands upon me, for I have not delivered the message which the Lord sent me to deliver; neither have I told you that which ye requested that I should tell; therefore, God will not suffer that I shall be destroyed at this time." (Mosiah 13:2-3)

Abinadi later testified of Christ many many times, including the following:

"He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death."

Later Abinadi gave his life for this gospel we hold so dear.

Nephi's Broken Bow

May we all have the faith of Nephi. "And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did make out of wood a bow, and out of a straight stick, an arrow; wherefore, I did arm myself with a bow and an arrow, with a sling and with stones. And I said unto my father: Whither shall I go to obtain food?

And it came to pass that he did inquire of the Lord, for they had humbled themselves because of my words; for I did say many things unto them in the energy of my soul.

And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord said unto him: Look upon the ball, and behold the things which are written.

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld the pointers which were in the ball, that they did work according to the faith and diligence and heed which we did give unto them.

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did go forth up into the top of the mountain, according to the directions which were given upon the ball.

And it came to pass that I did slay wild beasts, insomuch that I did obtain food for our families.

And it came to pass that I did return to our tents, bearing the beasts which I had slain; and now when they beheld that I had obtained food, how great was their joy! And it came to pass that they did humble themselves before the Lord, and did give thanks unto him. (1 Nephi 16:23-24, 26, 28, 30-32 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/16.23-24,26,28,30-32 )

"The Title of Liberty...and if all men were like unto Moroni..."

Captain Moroni and the Title of Liberty "And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it—In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children—and he fastened it upon the end of a pole. And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the title of liberty) and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land—" (Alma 46:12-13 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/46.12-13?lang=eng#11 )

A bit more about Moroni:

"Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men." (Alma 48:17 http://bit.ly/1dnRJOJ )

And it came to pass that I prayed unto the Lord...And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did guide the ship, that we sailed again towards the promised land. And it came to pass that after we had sailed for the space of many days we did arrive at the promised land; and we went forth upon the land, and did pitch our tents; and we did call it the promised land." (1 Nephi 18:21-23 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/18.21-23?lang=eng#20 )

May we all rely on the Lord to guide us to our destination, both on earth, and back to our heavenly home.

The Savior in the Americas

"And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto them saying: Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world. And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in his hands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come. And when they had all gone forth and had witnessed for themselves, they did cry out with one accord, saying: Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him" (3 Nephi 11:13-17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11.13-17?lang=eng#12 )

Many of the Noble and Great Ones...

All of us stood strong for Christ in the premortal life when the plan of Salvation was presented. Prophets and Apostles have said that many were among the noble and great ones. May we all stand strong for Christ, as we did before we were born. Please take a moment to read what Abraham said about when the plan was presented and know that you were there:

"Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones;

And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.

And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell;

And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;

And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.

And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first.

And the second was angry, and kept not his first estate; and, at that day, many followed after him." (Abraham 3:22-28 http://bit.ly/1apGWz8 )

Jesus as a Little Child

We are told precious little about the Savior growing up, but we must assume that he was taught well by his parents and by the spirit to be able to teach the elders in the temple when he was twelve.

Being taught by his parents, the spirit, and possibly by the Father himself. We know he knew who he was at the start of his ministry when he fasted for 40 days and was tempted of the adversary.

He then became the man who it was said of: "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him." (Acts 10:38http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/acts/10.38 )

"I have trodden the winepress alone...I will give you rest to your souls"

"I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me...and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment." Isaiah 63:3 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/ot/isa/63.3 )

Elder Jeffrey R Holland has said that the Savior says "If you will follow me, I will lead you out of darkness,” He promises. “I will give you answers to your prayers. I will give you rest to your souls.”" (Broken things to Mend http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2006/04/broken-things-to-mend )

May we all be grateful for the Savior's lonely sacrifice for us, and turn to him, find answers to our prayers, and find rest.
