Feed my Sheep

“…Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.” - John 21:17

"In this painting Christ is depicted in the role of the Good Shepherd. He holds firmly to the rod, representing the law of His Father. It symbolizes the commandments and teachings that help to keep us, his flock, safe.

Christ’s countenance expresses the mercy of the Atonement and the path back to our Father. If we should stray from the safety of His flock in this life, we know that our Shepherd will come find us if we call out to Him.

We have also been given the charge, like Peter, to help our Savior in the work of bringing salvation to His flock, to feed His sheep. We will have the chance to bring physical and spiritual nourishment to those that come across our way if we are willing to serve."

"He is not Here, for he is risen"

“He is not here: for he is risen” (Matthew 28:6)

May we all be grateful for these words, spoken by a heavenly messenger 2 millenia ago. The center of the entire plan of salvation was forever in place, and there was a way for our salvation and resurrection. Each time we are comforted by the spirit, each time we are strengthened by the Lord, each time we reach out in service, anytime we do anything good, all of that was made possible and was announced by the words "He is Risen"

God so loved the World

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (http://bit.ly/12NHwk2) Of this truth the Savior said to Peter "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (http://bit.ly/16y1Yey)

The Savior loves us with a love we cannot comprehend. He descended below all things so that we may return back to him and our Father in Heaven again with our families.

May we all take the time to pour our hearts out in gratitude to our Father in Heaven for the gift of his only begotten son, and take a moment afterwards to wait for the Lord's response through the spirit. Then, may we love others as the Savior would have us do.

I will give you Rest to your Souls

"I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me...and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment." Isaiah 63:3 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/ot/isa/63.3 )

Because of The Savior's Sacrifice, he can comfort and strengthen us.  Elder Jeffrey R Holland has said that the Savior says "If you will follow me, I will lead you out of darkness,” He promises. “I will give you answers to your prayers. I will give you rest to your souls.”" (Broken things to Mendhttp://www.lds.org/general-conference/2006/04/broken-things-to-mend )

May we all be grateful for the Savior's lonely sacrifice for us, and turn to him, find answers to our prayers, and find rest.

Elder Packer's Testimony of Seeing the Savior

Below Read Elder Packer testify that he has seen the Savior, Jesus Christ. "After all the years that I have lived and taught and served, after the millions of miles I have traveled around the world, with all that I have experienced, there is one great truth that I would share. That is my witness of the Savior Jesus Christ.

Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon recorded the following after a sacred experience:

“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!

“For we saw him” (D&C 76:22–23).

Their words are my words.

I believe and I am sure that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that He lives. He is the Only Begotten of the Father, and “by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:24).

I bear my witness that the Savior lives. I know the Lord. I am His witness. I know of His great sacrifice and eternal love for all of Heavenly Father’s children. I bear my special witness in all humility but with absolute certainty, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen." - Boyd K Packer, Apostle of the Lord

The House of the Lord

May we attend the temple often to feel of the presence of the Lord. President Hinckley has said that the work we do for the dead in the Temple is the closest we can come to the Sacrifice the Savior made for us, because we are doing things for others that they cannot do for themselves. We become Saviors on Mount Zion.

The Temple is the House of The Lord, where we can go to feel of his presence. "And inasmuch as my people build a house unto me in the name of the Lord...my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God" (D & C 97:15-16 http://bit.ly/14GTNd6 )

Because of the Pioneers, "All is Well"

Today is the day we commemorate the early saints coming west after the horrible persecution they faced in other areas for just wanting to live their faith. Many of them lived and were willing to die for the Gospel they loved so much. May we all be modern-day pioneers and follow their example, and take joy in the words of the Hymn Come, Come ye Saints. At the last day, after a life spent in the service of the Savior and others, may we be able to declare with Joy "All is Well"

Come, come, ye saints, no toil nor labor fear;
But with joy wend your way.
Though hard to you this journey may appear,
Grace shall be as your day.
Tis better far for us to strive
Our useless cares from us to drive;
Do this, and joy your hearts will swell -
All is well! All is well!

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard?
'Tis not so; all is right.
Why should we think to earn a great reward
If we now shun the fight?
Gird up your loins; fresh courage take.
Our God will never us forsake;
And soon we'll have this tale to tell-
All is well! All is well!

We'll find the place which God for us prepared,
Far away, in the West,
Where none shall come to hurt or make afraid;
There the saints, will be blessed.
We'll make the air, with music ring,
Shout praises to our God and King;
Above the rest these words we'll tell -
All is well! All is well!

And should we die before our journey's through,
Happy day! All is well!
We then are free from toil and sorrow, too;
With the just we shall dwell!
But if our lives are spared again
To see the Saints their rest obtain,
Oh, how we'll make this chorus swell-
All is well! All is well!

The Restoration of the Priesthood

Listen to the account of John the Baptist conferring the Aaronic Priesthood: "“But, dear brother, think, further think for a moment, what joy filled our hearts, and with what surprise we must have bowed, (for who would not have bowed the knee for such a blessing?) when we received under his hand the Holy Priesthood as he said, ‘Upon you my fellow-servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer this Priesthood and this authority, which shall remain upon earth, that the Sons of Levi may yet offer an offering unto the Lord in righteousness!’

“I shall not attempt to paint to you the feelings of this heart, nor the majestic beauty and glory which surrounded us on this occasion; but you will believe me when I say, that earth, nor men, with the eloquence of time, cannot begin to clothe language in as interesting and sublime a manner as this holy personage. No; nor has this earth power to give the joy, to bestow the peace, or comprehend the wisdom which was contained in each sentence as they were delivered by the power of the Holy Spirit! Man may deceive his fellow-men, deception may follow deception, and the children of the wicked one may have power to seduce the foolish and untaught, till naught but fiction feeds the many, and the fruit of falsehood carries in its current the giddy to the grave; but one touch with the finger of his love, yes, one ray of glory from the upper world, or one word from the mouth of the Savior, from the bosom of eternity, strikes it all into insignificance, and blots it forever from the mind. The assurance that we were in the presence of an angel, the certainty that we heard the voice of Jesus, and the truth unsullied as it flowed from a pure personage, dictated by the will of God, is to me past description, and I shall ever look upon this expression of the Savior’s goodness with wonder and thanksgiving while I am permitted to tarry; and in those mansions where perfection dwells and sin never comes, I hope to adore in that day which shall never cease.”—Messenger and Advocate, vol. 1 (October 1834), pp. 14–16. The Book of Mormon is the Word of God

Together with the Bible, The Book of Mormon is the inspired Word of God, a record of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas. From the title page, it is "to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations" Further on here is a link to read the promise of the Book of Mormon online now.

Prophets were told by God what to include in the book for us in our day. Moroni says "Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing."

For God to know what we would need to know in our day makes the Book of Mormon a priceless gift. May we read it prayerfully as we read the Bible.

The Great I Am, even Jesus Christ—

"Hearken and listen to the voice of him who is from all eternity to all eternity, the Great I Am, even Jesus Christ—The light and the life of the world; a light which shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehendeth it not."

As the Savior followed the Father in all things, even to Gethsemane and Golgotha, may we similarly follow the Savior in all things we may be called to go through, and to have the spirit to be with us for time, and to live in the presence of God and the Lamb for all eternity.

"Many of the Noble and Great ones..."

All of us stood strong for Christ in the premortal life when the plan of Salvation was presented. Prophets and Apostles have said that many were among the noble and great ones. May we all stand strong for Christ, as we did before we were born. Please take a moment to read what Abraham said about when the plan was presented and know that you were there:

"Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones;

And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.

And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell;

And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;

And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.

And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first.

And the second was angry, and kept not his first estate; and, at that day, many followed after him." (Abraham 3:22-28 http://bit.ly/1apGWz8 )

"With me ye shall find rest"

After we have suffered through the trials of this life successfully, can we imagine being embraced by the Savior when it is time to return home? Can we imagine him saying to us:

The Savior gently chided his disciples for their unbelief, who, after seeing him calm the storm said to each other

"What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

"Thy Faith hath made the whole; go in peace"

This is a wonderful story of the healing power of the Savior, of his kindness and mercy, and of the remarkable faith of a woman. To this woman of faith the Savior declared "Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace."

From the new testament: "And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace."

How many times has Jesus wept for me?

"Though He knew that He would raise Lazarus from the dead, he felt great compassion for Mary and Martha. And as the scripture states, “Jesus wept.” John 11:35

In our lives, we face trials and difficulties. Our Father in heaven does not choose to intervene every time and take away our problems. Yet he has provided a way of escape through the atonement of Jesus Christ. Still, it must be difficult to see us in our trials. This small verse in the Bible teaches us this reality. As I think of this passage, I can’t help but wonder, “How many times has Jesus wept for me?” - By the artist, Liz Lemon Swindle

The Baptism of the Savior - to Fulfill all Righteousness

"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:16-17https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/3.16-17?lang=eng#15 )

The Savior followed the will of the Father "to fulfill all righteousness," and continued doing that his entire life. May we all follow the example of the Savior in all things, for he was obedient to the Father so that we could return and live with them again.

Sacred Grove

"I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!"

Joseph Smith saw God the Father and his son, Jesus Christ, and was the instrument through which God restored the same New Testament church to the earth again in its purity.  Click the link below to learn more, or to read from the Book of Mormon online.

Our Advocate with the Father

This picture and message is from an artist who continues to paint pictures of the Savior even though she has rheumatoid arthritis, and every brushstroke is painful. "As Jesus hung on the cross, He looked to those who stood at His feet and said, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” – Luke 23:34

Though this plea certainly referred to those who were crucifying Him, it also applied to all of who fall short and sin. An advocate is one who pleads another’s cause and Christ is truly our advocate with the Father. The apostle John wrote, “And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” – John 2:1...

When I look at this painting I feel that the Lord truly is our Advocate. His sacrifices make possible our forgiveness and in His mercies we find hope. I am grateful for His love and I long to keep His commandments that I might feel of His love and know Him."

The Good Shepherd

In this scripture the Savior states that he knows us, that he lays down his life for us, and that there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. What wonderful words of peace and comfort.

"I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd." (John 10:14-16 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/10.14-16 )

"For the Blessings of Liberty..."

Please take a moment to read what Moroni did when freedom was threatened, and of what kind of man of God he was. May each of us be like him, for if all of us were, the very powers of hell would be shaken forever.

"And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it—In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children—and he fastened it upon the end of a pole.

And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the title of liberty) and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land—" (Alma 46:13 http://bit.ly/12oIdBb )

A bit more about Moroni:

"Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men." (Alma 48:17 http://bit.ly/1dnRJOJ )

Freedom started long before the Declaration - Captain Moroni

On this day may we remember that the beginnings of freedom in this country came long before the Declaration of Independence. Captain Moroni and the Title of Liberty - "And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it—In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children—and he fastened it upon the end of a pole. And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the title of liberty) and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land—" (Alma 46:12-13 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/46.12-13?lang=eng#11 )

Reprint: The Rebirth of Freedom

This is an article I wrote and posted to another blog, but I am republishing it here.  The Blog Address to the original is at the bottom of the page.

"The American Revolution was the catalyst for events that were being set in motion around the Globe.  At that time, in seedbeds all across the world, seemingly coming from the same mind, the principles of Freedom were being discussed, and actions were being set in motion, actions that began in the United States of America.

This Great Country became the starting point for freedom to stretch across the globe.  At the first it looked like an experiment about to fail, but with every spark of Faith in the hearts of each person who helped joined the freedom movement, it grew from fledgling idea to the Bastian of Hope it became.

Businesses thrived, churches bells rang, and the principles of Freedom were published for wide access.  People flocked here and built a new life from the dreams they were able to make real.  And yet there were still growing pains.  But the principles of Freedom governed the people, with a government that didn’t intrude too much in the lives of its people, but instead considered that Freedom of the People was a sacred trust that they were given to safeguard.

The America we were is still alive in our dreams and in the hearts of each man and woman who seeks to better their own lives and the lives of others.  But times have changed.  We live in a land of threatened Freedom, times where the Government has forgotten the sacred trust of ensuring Freedom of the People and the protection of their rights.

Instead, people who are too focused on their own greed have risen to power, seemingly organized as if from one mind, people who are trampling on the principles of Freedom, and instead are passing laws that are transforming this nation into a nation of slaves.  The sacred principles of integrity, honesty, Faith, Love, and Freedom are being pushed aside in the public arena.

A vocal minority has changed the government, and has altered the principles upon which it stands for.   They have also engineered society in such a way that people are starting to forget that Freedom comes at a price.  This vocal minority placate the masses with movies, popular music, and other media which blind us to the dangers ahead.

Yet deep inside of each of us is that same spark of Faith that led our Forefathers to pledge their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to this cause.  We still have men and women who have followed that spark today, and strive to restore our freedoms.  They strive for a return to morality and a return to the principles that made this country great, and if we return to them, these principles can change the world.

Those who are already fighting for these principles have taken up the banner, organized themselves into freedom loving organizations.  This is a call to the masses to reach for that faith within us, be inspired by the forefathers who gave birth to this country, and to trust in the hand of the Almighty as we change what we do every day.  Instead of the latest sitcom, spend some time to help in the cause of Freedom, and restore the greatness that once was.   Instead of watching a movie, spend some time to learn about the birth of this great Country.

Finally, become vocal about restoring the principles which liberated our ancestors.  No doubt they watch over us with God in Heaven, hoping and praying we will rely on God as we seek to defend our liberties.

If all of us were to do this, what a force we could become.  Morality, integrity, honesty, and independence would resonate from every person as they reminded others of the principles that made this country Great.  We would experience a rebirth of hope in this country that could be felt across the globe.    And I hope this has reached into your heart, and has reminded you of that faith within you, and how essential you are in this cause of Freedom."

Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven

I love this picture of the Savior with a child. May we all remember what he said about becoming like little children. "At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."
