"Bind on earth shall be bound in heaven..."

After Peter declared that Jesus was the Christ, The Savior said to him "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/16.19 )

This power to bind on earth and in heaven was restored to the prophet Joseph Smith and recorded in the Doctrine and covenants multiple times (D&C 127:7, D&C 124:93, D&C 132:46, D&C 128). Because of the miracle of the Restoration of the Gospel, the principles the Savior established in New Testament times have been restored to this earth to bless our Father in Heaven's children. With the miracle of temple work, all of Father in Heaven's children who have ever lived on the earth, and who would have accepted it if they were alive, will be able to have the opportunity to accept or reject those blessings, and inherit all that our Father in Heaven has. And these blessings were spoken of in the Bible.

All things in the temple point to the Savior Jesus Christ. We are sealed to him and to our families forever.

"That we heard the voice of Jesus..."

Read this amazing account of John the Baptist conferring the Priesthood: "“But, dear brother, think, further think for a moment, what joy filled our hearts, and with what surprise we must have bowed, (for who would not have bowed the knee for such a blessing?) when we received under his hand the Holy Priesthood as he said, ‘Upon you my fellow-servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer this Priesthood and this authority, which shall remain upon earth, that the Sons of Levi may yet offer an offering unto the Lord in righteousness!’

“I shall not attempt to paint to you the feelings of this heart, nor the majestic beauty and glory which surrounded us on this occasion; but you will believe me when I say, that earth, nor men, with the eloquence of time, cannot begin to clothe language in as interesting and sublime a manner as this holy personage. No; nor has this earth power to give the joy, to bestow the peace, or comprehend the wisdom which was contained in each sentence as they were delivered by the power of the Holy Spirit!

...but one touch with the finger of his love, yes, one ray of glory from the upper world, or one word from the mouth of the Savior, from the bosom of eternity, strikes it all into insignificance, and blots it forever from the mind.

The assurance that we were in the presence of an angel, the certainty that we heard the voice of Jesus, and the truth unsullied as it flowed from a pure personage, dictated by the will of God, is to me past description, and I shall ever look upon this expression of the Savior’s goodness with wonder and thanksgiving while I am permitted to tarry; and in those mansions where perfection dwells and sin never comes, I hope to adore in that day which shall never cease.”—Messenger and Advocate, vol. 1 (October 1834), pp. 14–16. Depression - From Elder Holland and President Monson

A word on Depression because I have suffered from it myself, and then a message from Elder Holland

Depression is so difficult because sometimes it can make you feel like you don't feel the spirit, when actually you do. It can make you feel like God is far away. He is not. Please read this message from Elder Holland and President Monson.
"So how do you best respond when mental or emotional challenges confront you or those you love? Above all, never lose faith in your Father in Heaven, who loves you more than you can comprehend.

As President Monson said to the Relief Society sisters so movingly last Saturday evening: “That love never changes. … It is there for you when you are sad or happy, discouraged or hopeful. God’s love is there for you whether or not you feel you deserve [it]. It is simply always there.” 4 Never, ever doubt that, and never harden your heart.

Faithfully pursue the time-tested devotional practices that bring the Spirit of the Lord into your life. Seek the counsel of those who hold keys for your spiritual well-being. Ask for and cherish priesthood blessings. Take the sacrament every week, and hold fast to the perfecting promises of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Believe in miracles. I have seen so many of them come when every other indication would say that hope was lost. Hope is never lost. If those miracles do not come soon or fully or seemingly at all, remember the Savior’s own anguished example: if the bitter cup does not pass, drink it and be strong, trusting in happier days ahead." (Elder Holland, Like a Broken Vessel, https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2013/10/like-a-broken-vessel )

To those who suffer from depression, get counseling as necessary, and always counsel with your priesthood leaders. Remember that often what causes you to feel like God is far away is simply something in your mind that makes you feel like he is. Continue to have faith, even if it is a bitter cup you drink from, self talk to your own mind positively, and never lose hope.

You will again be able to feel of the love of our Savior in your life, and feel as if his arms were around you, comforting you.

No Greater Love than the Savior

O the Love of our Savior. My Heart is pained yet full of gratitude when I think of what our elder brother, Jesus Christ went through for all of us so that we could return and live with him, our Father in Heaven, and our families again.

"And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping..." (Luke 22:41-44 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/22.41-44?lang=eng#40 ).

If the Savior only had to atone for you, he would have done it willingly, all so that you could feel of his love and the Love of the Father.

The Savior was there for all of us then, and he is always there for us, even at times where we feel like he is far away. Pour out your hearts to him, study him, and become like him as you do his work. Lose yourself in his service and you will find a love and peace that is better than anything in this world.

An Obscure Boy - Joseph Smith and the First Vision

"Joseph described himself as “an obscure boy…who was doomed to the necessity of obtaining a scanty maintenance by his daily labor.” His mother describes him as “being a remarkably quiet, well-disposed child,….given to meditation and deep study.”

Young Joseph was inquisitive and hard working, but above all he was honest of heart. Of those years he says, “Though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true….I knew it, and I knew God knew it, and I could not deny it, neither dared I do it.”

Picture and message is by Joseph Brickey, the artist of this painting

Joseph Smith did see God the Father and his son, Jesus Christ. In his own words,

"I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.

It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!"

I am Jesus Christ - The Embrace of the Savior at the Last Day

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I am the life and the light of the world. I am the same who came unto mine own and mine own received me not; But verily, verily, I say unto you, that as many as receive me, to them will I give power to become the sons [and daughters] of God, even to them that believe on my name." (D & C 11:28-30 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/11.28-30 )

As we have more Faith in Christ our hearts will be changed, our desires will become more like his, and at the last day we will embrace our Savior having become like him, and what joy will fill our hearts at that time.  To really feel his loving arms around us, to feel joy that we have lived our lives so that we become like him, and to gain our exaltation as we continue serving the Lord and helping others to feel of that love we have felt.

We can feel a bit of that love every day of our lives as we serve others and do the work of the Lord.  And we will be able to share that love with others who don't have that in their lives.  Glory be to God for this marvellous plan of salvation that we have.

Pour your hearts out to the Father in gratitude and faith, do his work, and feel of the Love of the Savior in return.  For because of him, we have light in our own lives.

That He Lives!

From Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ: "Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God...He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come."

And from the Prophet Joseph Smith "And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives! For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father— That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God."

Jesus Christ, the Savior and Redeemer of the World is real. He is involved in the details of our lives and is there for us if we reach out to him. We can know for ourselves that he is real, and that he loves us if we will ask our Father in Heaven in Christ's name. Christ's church has been restored to the earth, with all of the blessings from previous Biblical times. The Gospel, once lost, has been restored by the Power of God for our times.

The Savior, Jesus Christ

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I am the life and the light of the world. I am the same who came unto mine own and mine own received me not;

But verily, verily, I say unto you, that as many as receive me, to them will I give power to become the sons [and daughters] of God, even to them that believe on my name. Amen."

The Savior's love can reach the furthest part of the hardest heart, and can give comfort to the tenderest soul. He knows each of us individually, and is involved in the details of our lives in a way we cannot comprehend. He is there. He is real.

May we all become the sons and daughters of God, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. May we follow him, emulate him, and at the end, return back to him and our Father in Heaven again.

"I saw a Pillar of Light..."

"I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. (Joseph Smith-History 1:16-17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1.16-17?lang=eng#15 )

Joseph Smith Saw God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. He bore that testimony his entire life. In Joseph's words "I had actually seen a light, and in the midst of that light I saw two Personages, and they did in reality speak to me; and though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true...I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it."

Through subsequent visions and heavenly visitations, Christ's true gospel was restored to the earth, to bless us in this life, and to be exalted in the next, to dwell with our Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ forever.

I hope you take a moment in your prayers to thank our Father in Heaven for the blessings of the Restoration, to let him know you love him, and wait for the response as you do. You will be able to feel of the love of God for you. This restoration is so individual and personal as to be able to lift you in all your cares of life.

"Neither do I condemn thee..."

When the woman taken in adultery was brought to Jesus by the Pharisees, he didn't condemn her, he simply said "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." At this moment, through the spirit, each person there was pricked in their hearts with the sins they had commmitted.

When they left, the Savior turned to the woman and said words that undoubtedly must have given peace to the woman "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more."

May we all be slow to judge, slow to condemn others. For as we do that, we will love others as the Savior would love them.

We also remember Isaiah's words "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."

To return to the presence of the Father

The Prophet Joseph Smith said that we cannot be saved without our dead.  We, and them, will be able to return back to the presence of the Father again and be with our Savior, Jesus Christ, to live in their presence forever because of the blessings of the temple.  May we all go to the temple often.  God has said about the temple:

"my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God" (D & C 97:15-16http://bit.ly/14GTNd6 )

In temples we become connected to our families and to God forever, and when we go there we are able to feel of the presence of the Lord. The spirit in temples is stronger than in any other place on earth. While there we can perform sacred ordinances for our ancestors that are necessary for them to return to the presence of God. "thou art the Christ, the Son of God..."

What a wonderful declaration of the Savior and how great the faith of Martha. See below:

"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world."

The Savior is aware of each one of us intimitely, and as the prophet has said, is involved in the details of our lives. Even if sometimes you can't feel him close, he is there. He loves you with a love that is worth more than anything else.

Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. He is our advocate with the Father. He was the only begotten of the Father in the Flesh, and because of him, we may return to him and our Father in Heaven again with our families.

The Love of the Savior

In a world seemingly full of turmoil, the Love of the Savior stretches from before the foundations of the Earth into the eternities and beyond. It never ends. The power of his love touch the tenderest or hardest of hearts, and prepare us to live in the presence of God. Our salvation is his very reason for existence. He is personal enough to know the pains in the quiet chambers of our hearts, and can help transform those into lives filled with Love. He can work miracles in all of our lives, and truly does, if we but have faith and come unto him.

He said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me", and the scriptures say also "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 14:6 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/14.6 ;John 3:16 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/3.16 )

The Power and Authority of the Savior, Jesus Christ

"The power and authority of the higher, or Melchizedek Priesthood, is to hold the keys of all the spiritual blessings of the church—"

What a blessing it is to have the power and authority of the Savior on this earth, so that we, and all the peoples of the earth, and all who have or ever will live upon it, may be blessed. It stretches from before the beginning of time into the eternities and beyond, and has the power to touch and change the hearts of the children of men, one by one and heart by heart, and endure with them forever.

May we be grateful for the many blessings, too numerous to count, that have come to this earth since that time.

The Good Shepherd - Christ

What wonderful promises the Lord makes to us with the analogy of sheep and the Good Shepherd. "And he gathereth his children from the four quarters of the earth; and he numbereth his sheep, and they know him; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd; and he shall feed his sheep, and in him they shall find pasture" (1 Nephi 22:25 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/22.25?lang=eng#24 )

He also speaks to those of us working in the flock, "Feed the flock of God which is among you...And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away" ( 1 Peter 5:2-4 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/1-pet/5.2-4?lang=eng#1 )

How Blessed we are to have Prophets of God

"How blessed we are to have been taught by great prophets of God, each with his own unique abilities and experiences, each delivering to us the basic fundamentals we need to guide us through life and prepare us for the eternities to come."

Conference is coming.  May we take the opportunity to listen to Prophets and Apostles testify of Christ and his Restored Gospel.  May we follow their counsel and become closer to the Savior.

May we all remember that we are in the last days, and that even though the adversary may try, he cannot stop this great work. “The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done” (History of the Church, 4:540).

The Book of Mormon is the Word of God

The Bible is true.  Now find out for yourself about the Book of Mormon and read its promise at http://bit.ly/10t8QYm . From the title page it is "to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations" Prophets were told by God what to include in the Book of Mormon for us in our day. The prophet Moroni says "Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing."

The Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God, and preserved for over 1400 years so that we in our day might have the fulness of Christ's Gospel restored. Along with the Bible it is the word of God.  Read it and pray about its truth, and you will come to know it is true.

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ..."

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning" (3 Nephi 11:10-11 http://bit.ly/15HrSzh )

Jesus Christ came to the people of the Americas after he was resurrected.  They are those of whom he spoke when he said other sheep I have which are not of this fold.  This record from the Book of Mormon testifies that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself to all nations (title page to the Book of Mormon online at https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/bofm-title ).

"And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto them saying: Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world. And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in his hands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come. And when they had all gone forth and had witnessed for themselves, they did cry out with one accord, saying: Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him" (3 Nephi 11:13-17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11.13-17?lang=eng#12 )

"Would suffer even unto death rather than commit sin..."

"...they took their swords, and all the weapons which were used for the shedding of man’s blood, and they did bury them up deep in the earth.

And this they did, it being in their view a testimony to God, and also to men, that they never would use weapons again for the shedding of man’s blood; and this they did, vouching and covenanting with God, that rather than shed the blood of their brethren they would give up their own lives...

And thus we see that, when these Lamanites were brought to believe and to know the truth, they were firm, and would suffer even unto death rather than commit sin..." Alma 24:17-19 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/24.17-19 ).

May we all be as strong as the Anti-Nephi-Lehi's who were willing to suffer death rather than sin. May we ever keep our covenants with our Father in Heaven that we make at baptism and in the temple. May we stand strong for the Lord "at all times, in all things, and in all places we may be in."

Jesus as a Little Child

We are told precious little about the Savior growing up, but we must assume that he was taught well by his parents and by the spirit to be able to teach the elders in the temple when he was twelve.

Being taught by his parents, the spirit, and undoubtedly by the Father himself, we later know he knew who he was at the start of his ministry when he fasted for 40 days and was tempted of the adversary, for he rebuked Satan for tempting God.

He then became the man who it was said of: "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him." (Acts 10:38 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/acts/10.38

May God be with us, also, as we strive to emulate the Savior in our own lives.

"That He Lives!"

“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!

“For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—

“That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:22–24 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/76.22-24).

The Savior lives. He is real. As the prophet has said, He is involved in the details of our lives. He knows you better than you know yourself, and he is preparing you to return back to live with him and your family again someday. He will ever be there for us to comfort, strengthen, help, and encourage us, and yes, to work miracles for us. Love him with all of your heart, and he will lead you back to your heavenly home.

"Endued with Power from on high"

The Savior said to the twelve and others after he was resurrected "behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."(Luke 24:49) That is what happens every day in temples all across the world. Both the living and the dead are endowed with power against the adversary. The New Testament Church has been restored in our day, and the blessings will last for eternity.

The Restoration of Previous Dispensations

Christ appearing in the Kirtland Temple by Walter Rane. "The veil was taken from our minds, and the eyes of our understanding were opened. We saw the Lord standing upon the breastwork of the pulpit, before us; and under his feet was a paved work of pure gold, in color like amber. His eyes were as a flame of fire; the hair of his head was white like the pure snow; his countenance shone above the brightness of the sun; and his voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters, even the voice of Jehovah, saying: I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father" (Doctrine and Covenants 110:1-4 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/110.1-4?lang=eng#primary ).

The Savior accepted the house of the Lord, and all of the prophets from previous dispensations appeared to Joseph and Oliver Cowdery to confer the keys to all previous dispensations. The Gathering of Israel had begun, and continues on today as we attend the temple and do genealogy work. We capture the Spirit of Elijah and become "Saviors on Mount Zion," as President Hinckley said. As members of the house of Israel, may we help to gather the elect from the 4 corners of the earth, and help them come to the gospel so they may become bound by temple covenants to Christ and their ancestors.

In his constant care

We are all in the hands of the Savior, and are as little children. May we look to him, trustingly, obediently, and with a desire to serve him, and we will find eternal life. For the Savior has said "Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/18.3 ).

The Lord is my Shepherd

What wonderful promises are given with the analogy of the Lord as the Good Shepherd, and are worth reading. "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." (Psalms 23 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/ot/ps/23 ).

"And my soul hungered..."

"And my soul hungered; and I kneeled down before my Maker, and I cried unto him in mighty prayer and supplication for mine own soul; and all the day long did I cry unto him; yea, and when the night came I did still raise my voice high that it reached the heavens.
And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed.
And I, Enos, knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away.
And I said: Lord, how is it done?
And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole" (Enos 1: 4-8 http://bit.ly/1d030S7 )

May we all have the faith of Enos, so that the Lord may work in our own lives.

"We did call it the promised land"

May we be grateful for the examples of following the Lord given to us in the Book of Mormon. "behold, I took the compass, and it did work whither I desired it. And it came to pass that I prayed unto the Lord...And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did guide the ship, that we sailed again towards the promised land. And it came to pass that after we had sailed for the space of many days we did arrive at the promised land; and we went forth upon the land, and did pitch our tents; and we did call it the promised land." (1 Nephi 18:21-23 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/18.21-23?lang=eng#20 )

May we all rely on the Lord to guide us to our destination, both on earth, and back to our heavenly home.
