Washing of the Feet - an ordinance still done today

The ordinance of the washing of the feet, still done today by the apostles. May we all seek to lift others as the Savior did.  "He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.  After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.  Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?  Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.  Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.  Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head." (John 13:3-9 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/13.3-9 )

do we invite the Savior in, for he has served us already.  He has washed us clean if we will but come to him.  He is our Savior and Redeemer, and if he were here, he would serve others humbly, as he did on earth.

Become as we are-God's Children

May we all become as little children, alive in Christ, trusting him and taking joy in the smallest of God's creations.  "But little children are alive in Christ, even from the foundation of the world." (Moroni 8:12).  And in the new testament we read "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3 ).  May we all remember that we are our Father in Heaven's children, and he takes joy in us as he helps lift us, protect us, comfort us and strengthen us.

How often does our Savior, or our Father look down on us with joy?  How often they are there to strengthen and lift us.  How often they are to help us in every need.  They love each one individually, and knows of our deepest righteous desires.  Turn to them as little children, trustingly, with faith, and be blessed through the spirit, and with eternal life at the last day.

God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes

The Savior says this about the faithful "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." (Revelations 21:4 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/rev/21.4)

But before that time, the Lord can figuratively, through the spirit, wipe away all tears from our eyes .  If we will turn to him in faith, he can and will comfort us.  He has said "come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/11.28)

As you turn to the Savior in prayer both in good times and in bad, you can feel the spirit wrap around you, almost as a warm blanket, soothing your soul.

Pour your hearts out to God, and because of Christ's atonement, he can give you the rest only he can give.

"and with his stripes we are healed"

Please take a moment to read the beautiful words of Isaiah about the Savior, for the Savior knows us, understands us, as no one ever can, and has atoned for our sins because he loves us.  "For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.  Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  (Isaiah 53:2-5 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/ot/isa/53.2-5 )

The Savior knows us, knows our trials, knows our challenges we face, and can forgive our sins, too.  There is nothing we could ever experience that he hasn't already experienced, and his greatest desire is that we reach out to him so he can comfort and strengthen us through the spirit.  May we ever rely on him, and turn to him in all things.

Christ Heals, and his Priesthood Power again on earth

Christ healing a blind man.  "And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.  And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed." (Mark 1:40-42 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/mark/1.40-42 ).

May we all be grateful that the same priesthood power that the Savior used is here on this earth, for the blessing of all our Father in Heaven's children.

Seek Priesthood blessings when in difficult times, when sick, and when afflicted in any way, for comfort, for healing, and for any other reason, for the Priesthood power is again on the earth, the authority traced back to Christ himself.  He will bless us.

That we may have the faith of Nephi

May we be grateful for the examples of following the Lord given to us of Nephi.  "behold, I took the compass, and it did work whither I desired it. And it came to pass that I prayed unto the Lord...And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did guide the ship, that we sailed again towards the promised land.  And it came to pass that after we had sailed for the space of many days we did arrive at the promised land; and we went forth upon the land, and did pitch our tents; and we did call it the promised land." (1 Nephi 18:21-23 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/18.21-23 )

May we all have the faith of Nephi, and rely on the Lord to guide us to our destination, both on earth, and back to our heavenly home.  May our faith become unshakable, steady, and may we be firm in our resolve to follow the Savior in all things.

The Power of Prayer-Did you think to Pray?

We can learn much about praying to our Father in Heaven from how children pray.  They so easily feel the spirit, and trustingly pray.  They can rely on the Lord so easily.  My 5 year old daughter the other day said to me, when I was feeling down, that I needed to "pray to Jesus to help you feel better."

Prayer is such a powerful way to connect with our Father in Heaven, and feel his love and the Love of the Savior through the spirit.

We are counselled to pray always (Colossians, Ephesians, 3 Nephi, D & C), and to have our hearts drawn out constantly in prayer (Alma 34:27 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/34.27 ).

May we do that, and remember the words of the hymn:

Ere you left your room this morning
Did you think to pray
In the name of Christ our Saviour
Did you sue for loving favour
As a shield today?

Oh how praying rests the weary
Prayer will change the night to day
So when life seems dark and dreary
Don't forget to pray.

Pour your heart out to your Father in Heaven.  Rely on the atonement of the Savior in all things, and you will be able to have the spirit to be with you to calm, strengthen, comfort, and help you in all ways.

"with me ye shall find rest"

After we have finished our mission in this life, can we imagine being embraced by the Savior when it is time to return home?  What joy will fill our hearts at that time if we have endured to the end and followed him.  Can we imagine him saying to us:

"Come unto me in my kingdom; and with me ye shall find rest” (3 Ne. 28:3 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/28.3

Further, can we imagine after a lifetime of service to the Lord being welcomed back by him saying "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." (Matthew 25:21 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/25.21 )

What sublime peace will fill our hearts at that time.  Until it is our time to return home, may we live worthy of the companionship of the spirit, for it is sent by our Father in Heaven in the Savior's name for us, to comfort, strengthen, and help us.  When we have the spirit we feel just as if the Savior were there, beside us.  I pray that all may feel of that joy, for it is free unto all who come unto the Savior.

The Lord Jesus Christ-The Living Christ

From Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ, men who have seen the Resurrected Savior:  "Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God...He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come."  (The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles.  More at http://bit.ly/1bAqOhI )

And from the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery "And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!  For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father" (Doctrine and Covenants 76:22-24 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/76.22-24 )

The Savior, Jesus Christ is real.  He truly does live, and because he lives, we all will live again.  We all will have the opportunity to return again to the Father because of him.

Follow him, seek him out, serve others as we serve him, and he will ever be at our side, as our Prophet has said.

And pour your hearts out in gratitude to the Father for the Matchless gift of his Beloved son (The Living Christ, testimony of the Apostles), and feel of his love for us in our hearts and souls.

Gethsemane - Part of the Atonement of the Savior - how do we reach out?

Luke says "And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.  And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.  And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.  And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping..." (Luke 22:41-44 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/22.41-44 )

My Heart is pained yet full of gratitude when I think of what the Savior went through for me, and for all of us.  This loving, pure Beloved Son sweat blood from his pores, and then in this hour of greatest agony, he found his apostles asleep, and then, finally, needed an angel to strengthen him.  Our Elder Brother and Savior did this for each and every one of us, because of the love he has for us.

Then, according to scripture and Elder Talmage, on the cross, he continued to pay the price for our sins, and only when he said "it is finished" and died, did the overbearing pain, which was greater than a mortal man can bear, finally cease.

The price has already been paid.  How often do we reach out for forgiveness, or petition him to be comforted in our pains and trials?  Do we rely on our Savior to help us in times of need?  He has paid the price, and gained power over all.  Pour out your hearts to him, and be comforted.

"The Son of Man hath descended below them all"-for us

The Prophet Joseph received the following comfort when he and the saints were going through trials during the time Joseph was in Liberty Jail;

"The Son of Man hath descended below them all, art thou greater than he?"

The Greatest of all will never let us suffer more than we are able, but will lift us and comfort us.  If we pour our hearts out to our Father in Heaven, in the name of Christ, through the power of the Atonement, and through the spirit, he can and will lift us.

He is the compassionate Savior, he who descended below all things so that he might "draw all men unto him," so that we may be comforted in this life, and gain eternal life in the world to come.

He lives today, and is there.  Reach out to him in prayer and find out for yourself.

A Modern-Day Prophet of God testifies of Christ

“With all my heart and the fervency of my soul, I lift up my voice in testimony as a special witness and declare that God does live. Jesus is His Son, the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh. He is our Redeemer; He is our Mediator with the Father. He it was who died on the cross to atone for our sins. He became the firstfruits of the Resurrection. Because He died, all shall live again... May the whole world know it and live by that knowledge.” President Thomas S Monson (http://www.lds.org/topics/jesus-christ )

"Daughter...they faith hath made thee whole"-What of our Faith?

This is a wonderful story of the healing power of the Savior, of his kindness and mercy, and of the remarkable faith of a woman.

From the new testament:  "And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace."

How often do we reach out to the Savior?  How often do we have faith in him enough to heal us of not just physical maladies, but our emotional, mental, and other trials we may go through.  He is ever there for us, and through faith, and through the priesthood, miracles may be wrought.

Have faith in him, pour your heart to him in prayer, and know that he will help you in the trials of your life.  At the time you feel the most alone, and that you can't make it any more, then is the time you will be comforted, strengthened, encouraged, and will be able to feel of his love.  He atoned for you, so he could help you at the time you most need it.

Rely on him.  Follow him.  Live with Him.

The Prince of Peace-Our Resurrected Savior and Redeemer

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." -Isaiah 9:6 (https://www.lds.org/scriptures/ot/isa/9.6 )

What wonderful words from the Prophet.  Each name applied to the Savior helps to better describe our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.  This child born to us, this son given, is the Savior of the World.

He is real, and is a resurrected, perfect, compassionate, and caring God.  His love is infinite and is from before the beginnings of the world, and extends into the eternities and beyond.

May we learn of him, as the scripture says, and follow him, and do his work by serving others, as another scripture says, and we will find a happiness unlike any we have ever had in our lives.

The Savior is our Light and Life in the World

"And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning" (3 Nephi 11:11 http://bit.ly/12Rtrnb ).

Because he drank the bitter cup, the Savior is the light and the life of the world.  He is our Savior, our Redeemer, and the only way back to our heavenly home.  He is ever there for us, there to comfort us, and there to strengthen us in our trials, for he understands any trial we may be called to go through.

May we seek Christ out, learn of him, as the scripture says, and follow him, as he beckoned in another scripture.  He stands with open arms waiting for us, and will ever be by our side, as our prophet has said.

He is real, and as the angel said, He is risen.  May we reach out to our God, the Resurrected, Glorified Savior of the world, Jesus Christ, and through the spirit, find peace in this life, and be able to embrace him and have life eternal in the world to come.

The first scripture is from the Book of Mormon, where Christ appeared to the people of the Americas after he was resurrected.  You can read the promise of the Book of Mormon online here http://bit.ly/10t8QYm and pray about its truth, or get a free copy by going to http://bit.ly/11WKJ1G

Not my will, but thine be done

The Savior prayed to the Father "nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done." His purpose for coming here, the atonement, was upon him, and he drank that bitter cup so that we might live with him again.

May we remember that Love was the reason for this "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life"

The Savior was obedient in all things that were asked of him, and because of that, we can return and live with him and our Father in Heaven again.  The Lord doesn't ask us to go through what the Savior went through, just wants us to be obedient to his commandments, and turn to him in our trials.  May we remember the sacrifice of the Savior, and as we pray to our Father in Heaven in gratitude for the Savior's sacrifice, may we feel of his love for us.

And when we have trials that we must endure, may we not revile, but turn to God, as the Savior did, and humbly say "not my will, but thine be done."  If we do, we will be exalted on high.

Be Not Afraid-Trust in the Lord

May we all trust in the Lord as little children and take his hand, so that he can lead us through the storms of life back to our Heavenly Home.  The Scriptures say, "Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest"  (Joshua 1:9 ).

Though we may be buffeted by the storms of life, though the current threatens to sweep us away, yet if we will reach out and take the Savior's hand, pour our hearts out to him in prayer, he will ever be there to guide us safely home.

May we ever trust in him.

Trusting our Father in Heaven as Little Children

How often do we trust our Father in Heaven as little children trust their parents?  One time when I was having a hard time, my 5 year-old daughter came up to me and trustingly said "You need to pray to Jesus to help you."  What a powerful lesson that as we trust our Savior, and become as little children, we will be able to feel of God's love more fully in our lives.

The Scriptures say "learn of me, and be meek and lowly of heart"  May we all be as little children, and learn of the Savior, trusting him and placing our faith solely in him.

Our Divine Redeemer

“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives! “For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—“That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:22–24, taken from The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles online at https://www.lds.org/bc/content/shared/content/english/pdf/36035_000_25_livingchrist.pdf ).

Jesus Christ is our Divine Redeemer, who stands at the right hand of the Father.  He continues to work today for our salvation, and is at the head of the Church.

As we pour out our hearts to Our Father in Heaven in Prayer, may we express our gratitude and love for our Savior, Jesus Christ, for it is because of him that we can approach him in prayer, and receive answers to the deepest stirrings of our hearts.

"The Hands of Heaven on Earth"

The Relief Society teaches that the women in our lives are the hands of heaven on earth, and there is no phrase more descriptive I can think of than that to describe the women and mothers in our lives.

May we realize the divine nature they have, and show the love to these daughters of God that the Savior would show to them if he were here. For they are righteously raising his children, both as parents and leaders. Single or Married, they raise their own and/or others' children.

From President Hinckley "wherever you may live, may the windows of heaven be opened and blessings come down upon you. May you live with love one for another. May you reach down to lift up those whose burdens are heavy. May you bring light and beauty to the world and particularly into your homes and into the lives of your children.
You know as I do that God our Eternal Father lives. He loves you. You know as I do that Jesus is the Christ, His immortal Son, our Redeemer. You know that the gospel is true and that heaven is near if we will cultivate it in our lives.” Quote from "To the Women of the Church," by Gordon B Hinckley" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2003/10/to-the-women-of-the-church

And to those who have no children. Your hands are the hands of heaven on earth, and your kindness and love are the same as if you were a mother.  Know that the Lord has promised you a fulness of joy, that your righteous desires will be fulfilled, and that no blessing will be witheld from you in the eternities.

The Sanctity of Womanhood and Motherhood

May we all revere womanhood, and the sacred, virtuous daughters of God our women and mothers are. James E Faust called Womanhood "The Highest Place of Honor," and President Gordon B Hinckley has spoken of the Sanctity of Womanhood. He says this:

“Of all the creations of the Almighty, there is none more beautiful, none more inspiring than a lovely daughter of God who walks in virtue with an understanding of why she should do so, who honors and respects her body as a thing sacred and divine, who cultivates her mind and constantly enlarges the horizon of her understanding, who nurtures her spirit with everlasting truth.” (President Hinckley)

These women whether mothers of their own children, or watching after others children, are the hands of heaven on earth. Their love and caring nature flows from God himself, and they are the ones who nurture the rising generation.

May we ever reverence the Women in our lives, and cherish them.

"For I am Filled with the Power of God..."

When Nephi's brothers tried to kill him for trying to build a ship, as he had been commanded by God to do, he said to them "In the name of the Almighty God, I command you that ye touch me not, for I am filled with the power of God, even unto the consuming of my flesh; and whoso shall lay his hands upon me shall wither even as a dried reed; and he shall be as naught before the power of God, for God shall smite him...

And it came to pass that the Lord said unto me: Stretch forth thine hand again unto thy brethren, and they shall not wither before thee, but I will shock them, saith the Lord, and this will I do, that they may know that I am the Lord their God.

And it came to pass that I stretched forth my hand unto my brethren, and they did not wither before me; but the Lord did shake them, even according to the word which he had spoken.

And now, they said: We know of a surety that the Lord is with thee, for we know that it is the power of the Lord that has shaken us. And they fell down before me, and were about to worship me, but I would not suffer them, saying: I am thy brother, yea, even thy younger brother; wherefore, worship the Lord thy God, and honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long in the land which the Lord thy God shall give thee." (1 Nephi 17:48,53-55 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17.48,53-55 )

We may not have to have the Lord "shake" our brothers, but that same power of God is again on the earth, to heal, to comfort, and to bless the lives of others. May we ever be grateful for it.

The First Vision - A Boy sees God, and speaks with him

"I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!" (Joseph Smith-History 1:16-17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1.16-17 )

Joseph Smith Saw God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. He bore that testimony his entire life. In Joseph's words "I had actually seen a light, and in the midst of that light I saw two Personages, and they did in reality speak to me; and though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true...I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it."

Through subsequent visions and heavenly visitations, Christ's true gospel was restored to the earth, to bless us in this life, and to be exalted in the next, to dwell with our Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ forever.

I hope you take a moment in your prayers to thank our Father in Heaven for the blessings of the Restoration, to let him know you love him, and wait for the response as you do. You will be able to feel of the love of God for you. This restoration is so individual and personal as to be able to lift you in all your cares of life.

Religious Liberty Threatened-A Call to all Religions

Shortly after the time of Christ, there were many Christians who suffered death for being Christians. This still happens in Radical countries where Religious Freedom doesn't exist. These Christian Martyrs look down upon us now, from the other side of the veil, and if they could speak to us now, I believe they would tell us to stand strong for what we believe.

We live in a time where religious liberty is being threatened in America. Just last week, An Obama aide stated, and was confirmed by a Supreme Court justice, that what is at stake with the Supreme Court's Upcoming decision on whether states can decide whether or not to define Marriage, is the Tax-Exempt Status of Religions.

From the document "The Family-A proclamation to the World" we read "The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ."

This government is trying to force religions to teach principles that run contrary to their beliefs as established by God.

This runs against what our Forefathers believed, which is that this nation was established by the intervention of God. These Forefathers pledged their lives and their sacred honor to guarantee, among other rights, the God-Given right to be free to worship according to the dictates of their own conscience.

Part of Amendment 1 of the Bill of Rights states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

The reason our forefathers established this was to escape the forced religion of England. They knew by experience the problems that happen when Governments interfere with Religion. Many of our Forefathers were strong believers in God, and they often stated that his hand organized this Country to be a place where we could be free to worship him as we please.

Here is a powerful statement on Religious Liberty: "Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right that protects the conscience of all people. It allows us to think, express and act upon what we deeply believe. But around the world, and in the United States, this freedom is eroding. Churches, religious organizations and individuals face increasing restrictions as they participate in the public square, express their beliefs or serve in society. But there is much good that Church members and people of goodwill can do to preserve and strengthen religious freedom."

The time has come in this Country for people of faith to set aside their theological differences, and come together to fight for the freedom to worship as we please. We need to take up the banner of Religious Freedom, and display it for all around us to see. We need to get involved in influencing our leaders to safeguard this most essential of God-Given rights.

Search your heart, and realize that the great changes that happened in the history of the world started with just one person becoming involved. Each of us has the power to be a catalyst for good, and to stand strong for the liberty and freedom of the people.

In that spirit, I have included some online sources where you can read more on Religious Liberty, and most importantly, get involved with like-minded men and women of good conscience who are concerned with the direction this country is moving. They are getting involved, and so can you.

And if you do, you will have the inner peace to know that even though you may not be asked to give your lives as the Early Christian martyrs did, you are standing strong just as they did in a world that is drifting so far from the moorings of the safe harbor of Morality.

Here are some of the online resources:

Alliance Defending Freedom's website on Religious Freedom – a way to get involved

Religious Liberties Website-a great place to get involved.

Statement and Resources on Religious Freedom from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Religious Liberty Page of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

Seventh Day Adventist Religious Liberty Page

Pick one, pick many, and get involved, even if it is just sending emails to your representatives on matters of Religious Liberty. For the worship of God according to the dictates of our own conscience is at stake now.

Elijah appears to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery and Restores the Sealing Power

After Christ and Moses and Elias appeared, Elijah appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery and restored the Sealing Power  "After this vision had closed, another great and glorious vision burst upon us; for Elijah the prophet, who was taken to heaven without tasting death, stood before us, and said:

Behold, the time has fully come, which was spoken of by the mouth of Malachi—testifying that he [Elijah] should be sent, before the great and dreadful day of the Lord come—

To turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the children to the fathers, lest the whole earth be smitten with a curse—

Therefore, the keys of this dispensation are committed into your hands; and by this ye may know that the great and dreadful day of the Lord is near, even at the doors." (Doctrine and Covenants 110:13-16 online at https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/110.13-16 )

The Restoration of the Gospel, with all its attendant blessings, has given us the power to be sealed to God and to our Families, and our ancestors for time and all eternity.  May we be grateful for the blessings we have been given as a part of the Gospel.

The Restoration of Christ's Priesthood

"The power and authority of the higher, or Melchizedek Priesthood, is to hold the keys of all the spiritual blessings of the church—"

We are told in Hebrews, in the New Testament that Christ was a High Priest after the Order of Melchizedek, and the Presiding High Priest. He gave that same priesthood to his apostles, with the authority to preside. After the church fell away, that Authority was lost. In our modern era, Peter, James, and John, now resurrected, glorified beings, appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, and restored the Melchizedek Priesthood to the earth, and the authority to minister as the Savior did. The long night of apostasy was over.

What a blessing it is to have the power and authority of the Savior on this earth, so that we, and all the peoples of the earth, and all who have or ever will live upon it, may be blessed. It stretches from before the beginning of time into the eternities and beyond, and has the power to touch and change the hearts of the children of men, one by one and heart by heart, and endure with them forever.  It is the Power of God.

May we be grateful for the many blessings, too numerous to count, that have come to this earth since that time.

The Savior, Jesus Christ, appears to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in the Kirtland Temple

"The veil was taken from our minds, and the eyes of our understanding were opened.

We saw the Lord standing upon the breastwork of the pulpit, before us; and under his feet was a paved work of pure gold, in color like amber.

His eyes were as a flame of fire; the hair of his head was white like the pure snow; his countenance shone above the brightness of the sun; and his voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters, even the voice of Jehovah, saying:

I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father.

Behold, your sins are forgiven you; you are clean before me; therefore, lift up your heads and rejoice.

Let the hearts of your brethren rejoice, and let the hearts of all my people rejoice, who have, with their might, built this house to my name.

For behold, I have accepted this house, and my name shall be here; and I will manifest myself to my people in mercy in this house.

Yea, I will appear unto my servants, and speak unto them with mine own voice, if my people will keep my commandments, and do not pollute this holy house.

Yea the hearts of thousands and tens of thousands shall greatly rejoice in consequence of the blessings which shall be poured out, and the endowment with which my servants have been endowed in this house.

And the fame of this house shall spread to foreign lands; and this is the beginning of the blessing which shall be poured out upon the heads of my people. Even so. Amen.

(Doctrine and Covenants 110:1-10 online at https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/110.1-10)

The Savior lives, and has accepted the temples of the Church as his house.  In them are done the ordinances of Salvation for both the living and the dead.  May we all go there often.

Moroni delivers the plates, Translation, and the Reality of the Plates

After 4 years of preparation, Joseph obtains the plates from Moroni, and the sacred record passes from immortal to mortal hands for translation. "On the twenty-second day of September, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-seven, having gone as usual at the end of another year to the place where they were deposited, the same heavenly messenger delivered them up to me with this charge: that I should be responsible for them; that if I should let them go carelessly, or through any neglect of mine, I should be cut off; but that if I would use all my endeavors to preserve them, until he, the messenger, should call for them, they should be protected" (https://www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1.59 )

The translation of the Book of Mormon was a miracle. A boy with a third grade education who couldn't spell was the instrument through which God translated the Book of Mormon from the Gold plates. On occasion during translating, Joseph and his scribes were often in the presence of Glorified Beings, as reported in historical accounts. God was instrumental in the translation, and in 60 short days, the transcript was ready for publishing.

A total of 12 people were permitted to see the plates and handle them, and 3 of those people were shown those plates by an angel of the Lord. This angel was a resurrected, Glorified messenger from God.

Read the testimony of these three witnesses online at https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/three and then after that click "next" to read the testimony of 8 witnesses.
