"And being in agony he prayed more earnestly..." so he could save us

In the Garden of Gethsemane, the Savior took upon him our sins, trials, pain, and suffering.  We read the following biblical account;

"And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow (Luke 22:41-45).

We also have Modern Revelation, where the Savior himself spoke of Gethsemane and how it applies to us as follows:

"For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent;...

Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink—

Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men" (D&C 19:16, 18-19).

Apostles and prophets have testified of the truth of this, and I add my testimony to theirs, that Christ suffered for our sins, so that we would not have to suffer.  We would not be able to bear it.  Christ used the Godhood in him to go beyond what mortal man is able to bear, and he did it just to suffer more, as he continued to do in the garden and on the cross.

If he only had to do it for one person's sins, and that person was you, he would have done it.  And because he went through it, he can now lift our burdens, comfort us in our trials, and succor us as we come unto him and find rest, as his invitation in scripture is.

May we ever come to Christ is my prayer.
