The word joy appears in over 300 verses in scripture, so it would appear that the Lord wants us to have Joy, and in those verses, shows us how to have joy.
John 15:9-11 tells us how we can have that joy; "As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."
So when we keep the commandments, the joy of God will remain in us. It stands to reason that as the perfectly obedient son, Jesus Christ, is the embodiment of having a fulness of Joy.
We also know that Ammon, in the Book of Mormon, several times was so overcome with joy that it exhausted his strength. The question is asked of us as follows:
"Now the joy of Ammon was so great even that he was full; yea, he was swallowed up in the joy of his God...Now was not this exceeding joy? Behold, this is joy which none receiveth save it be the truly penitent and humble seeker of happiness." (Alma 27:17-18)
Ammon did the will of the Lord in all things after his conversion, and sought the joy of the Lord. Are we obedient, and do we follow the will of the Lord and serve others so that we may have the Joy of the Savior to be with us?
That we may ever do so, I pray.
