The title page of a priceless book of Scripture for our day

What if you had a window into what things would be like in one hundred years?  One thousand years?  If you had a chance to write to those people who would live there, what would you say to them?

Such is the case with the Book of Mormon.  Prophets saw our day, and prophesied of the coming of Christ, and of the restoration of Christ's gospel in our day, nearly 1600-2600 years later.

As we read the Title page to the Book of Mormon, we become convinced of the Prophetic gift of these prophets who knew that the Book of Mormon would come to light many years after they had gone.  This title page given below was written approximately 400 years after the coming of Christ, by a prophet named Moroni, who stated in his record that Christ had shown him our day, and he knew our doings. Below is the Title Page of the Book of Mormon, and it states the purpose of the Book.

"The Book of Mormon

An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi

Wherefore, it is an abridgment of the record of the people of Nephi, and also of the Lamanites—Written to the Lamanites, who are a remnant of the house of Israel; and also to Jew and Gentile—Written by way of commandment, and also by the spirit of prophecy and of revelation—Written and sealed up, and hid up unto the Lord, that they might not be destroyed—To come forth by the gift and power of God unto the interpretation thereof—Sealed by the hand of Moroni, and hid up unto the Lord, to come forth in due time by way of the Gentile—The interpretation thereof by the gift of God.

An abridgment taken from the Book of Ether also, which is a record of the people of Jared, who were scattered at the time the Lord confounded the language of the people, when they were building a tower to get to heaven—Which is to show unto the remnant of the house of Israel what great things the Lord hath done for their fathers; and that they may know the covenants of the Lord, that they are not cast off forever—And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations—And now, if there are faults they are the mistakes of men; wherefore, condemn not the things of God, that ye may be found spotless at the judgment-seat of Christ.

Translated by Joseph Smith, Jun."

So he knew that God would bring this book to light, and it would be brought forth by the Gift and Power of God, as it was.  He had seen our day, and gives the purpose of the book-to the convincing of Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations. Then, prophetically, he states that if there are mistakes they are the mistakes of men, but not to condemn things which are holy because of those.

Do we not see these things today? Men trying to find fault in the record, despite the spirit of the Lord that accompanies the true seeker after truth when reading it? Did not Moroni see in vision our day?

May we ever read the Book of Mormon, this priceless record preserved for our day, and have our testimonies of Christ strengthened, is my prayer.
