Beside Still Waters

What beautiful words of comfort. May goodness and mercy follow us all the days of our lives until we return to our Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ with our families again.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters...Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."

Black Lamb

"No one is perfect. We do things...wrong, and then feel terrible about it. The way to get over it is to turn to the Savior. Knowing that the Lord compared Himself to a shepherd, who would willingly leave his other ninety-nine sheep to find the one that is lost, tells us that each individual — no matter who they are or what they did — is important to Him.

The setting of Black Lamb is in the area around the Sea of Galilee. A young lamb as this one, if lost, would surely die. Similarly, if we lose our spiritual way, we will not return to our Father in Heaven. Instead however, this once-lost lamb is going home, back to the fold, where it will be safe and loved." -Del Parson, artist of this picture, Black Lamb

Jesus Christ is the center of our Faith. In his words "Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The Great Mediator - Our Savior, Jesus Christ

The Savior is our advocate with the Father, and how must he plead to the Father in our behalf. And this so that through prayer we may be comforted in trials, may be forgiven, and may return back to the presence of the Father, all by the power of the Atonement. Lehi spoke to his sons of looking to the Savior, the Great Mediator.

"And now, my sons, I would that ye should look to the great Mediator, and hearken unto his great commandments; and be faithful unto his words, and choose eternal life, according to the will of his Holy Spirit; "

May we all look to the Great Mediator, even Christ, who makes intercession for us with the Father, and so gain eternal life again with him.

The House of the Lord

May we attend the temple often to feel of the presence of the Lord. President Hinckley has said that the work we do for the dead in the Temple is the closest we can come to the Sacrifice the Savior made for us, because we are doing things for others that they cannot do for themselves. We become Saviors on Mount Zion.

The Temple is the House of The Lord, where we can go to feel of his presence. "And inasmuch as my people build a house unto me in the name of the Lord...my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God" (D & C 97:15-16 http://bit.ly/14GTNd6 )

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. And behold, I am the light and the life of the world..." (3 Nephi 11:10-11http://bit.ly/12Rtrnb). The Savior also said

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:29-30https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/11.29-30?lang=eng#28 ). May we all come to know the love of the Savior of our souls, have him take our burdens, and in him find rest.

The Standard of Truth

Our Savior, Jesus Christ is the author of this great Latter-Day Work, restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith. “The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing, persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny many defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited very clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.”
Quote is The Standard of Truth by Joseph Smith Jr., History of the Church, 4:540 quoted in "The Truth of God Shall Go Forth," Elder Ballard October 2008 General Conference http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2008/10/the-truth-of-god-shall-go-forth?lang=eng

"And he shall be called Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning;" (Mosiah 3:8 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/mosiah/3.8 )

Jesus Christ, our Elder Brother and Savior, and his love for us

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Treasure these things up in your hearts, and let the solemnities of eternity rest upon your minds." (D&C 43:34 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/43.34 )

That loving, noble, majestic Savior is our Elder Brother, and pleads with the Father on our behalf so that we may return to live with him again.  His love was shown in everything he did in his life.  That love extends from before the foundation of the earth and extends into the eternities and beyond, yet is so personal we can feel the spirit bear witness of his love to us in the tiniest corner of our hearts as we reach out in prayer.
May we treasure up the words of Christ, and follow him, so we may return to our Father in Heaven again with him and our families.

Lead Kindly Light

Take a moment and read the words to this sacred hymn, and reflect on the love of the Savior for you as you pour out your heart in prayer.  He will lead you.
"Lead, Kindly Light, amidst th'encircling gloom,
Lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home,
Lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me....
Meantime, along the narrow rugged path,
Thyself hast trod,
Lead, Saviour, lead me home in childlike faith,
Home to my God.
To rest forever after earthly strife
In the calm light of everlasting life." (Hymn, Lead Kindly Light)

"I will Dry your Tears..."

"God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes" Message by Simon Dewey, the artist of this picture "Each of us experience times of sorrowful tears, disappointment, and heartache. As with this little child, Jesus reaches out to us and asks – as he did Mary Magdalane at the tomb – “why weepest thou?” Regardless of the reason for our suffering, He is able to comfort us. The well and the water bucket in the painting symbolize His ability to provide us with Living Water and the early morning light reminds us of the hope that shines after even the darkest of nights. If we will follow the example of this young child, meek and humble, the Savior will encircle us with His love and dry the tears of our sorrow." ~ Simon Dewey

The Savior is there to comfort us as we reach out to him in Faith, for he understands our trials. "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: ...Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows..." (Isaiah 53:3-4 http://bit.ly/1cObHfQ )

President Eyring's testimony of the Savior

Read President Eyring testify he has seen the Savior, Jesus Christ. "I am a witness of the Resurrection of the Lord as surely as if I had been there in the evening with the two disciples in the house on Emmaus road. I know that He lives as surely as did Joseph Smith when he saw the Father and the Son in the light of a brilliant morning in a grove of trees in Palmyra.

This is the true Church of Jesus Christ. Only in the priesthood keys held by President Thomas S. Monson is the power for us to be sealed in families to live forever with our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We will on the Day of Judgment stand before the Savior, face to face. It will be a time of joy for those who have drawn close to Him in His service in this life. It will be a joy to hear the words: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”19 I so testify as a witness of the risen Savior and our Redeemer in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."

The Witness - Boyd K Packer's testimony of Seeing the Savior

Below Read Elder Packer testify that he has seen the Savior, Jesus Christ. "After all the years that I have lived and taught and served, after the millions of miles I have traveled around the world, with all that I have experienced, there is one great truth that I would share. That is my witness of the Savior Jesus Christ.

Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon recorded the following after a sacred experience:

“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!

“For we saw him” (D&C 76:22–23).

Their words are my words.

I believe and I am sure that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that He lives. He is the Only Begotten of the Father, and “by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:24).

I bear my witness that the Savior lives. I know the Lord. I am His witness. I know of His great sacrifice and eternal love for all of Heavenly Father’s children. I bear my special witness in all humility but with absolute certainty, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen." - Boyd K Packer, Apostle of the Lord

The Living Christ

"We are counseled to “look forward with an eye of faith” to the day we will stand before the Lord Jesus Christ (Alma 5:15)...The red robe in this painting symbolizes the Atonement for our sins, for when Christ comes again He shall be “clothed in a vesture dipped in blood” (Revelations 19:13). The Lord is My Shepherd

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of ddeath, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

The Last Supper - Take upon us his name

As we take the Sacrament, may we remember that it was the Savior himself that instituted the sacrament in remembrance of his sacrifice for us. May we remember that if we are willing to take upon us his name, his spirit will be with us. Below are both accounts of him instituting it, in the New Testament and in the Book of Mormon.

"And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." (Matthew 26:26-28 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/26.26-28 )

"And when the disciples had come with bread and wine, he took of the bread and brake and blessed it; and he gave unto the disciples and commanded that they should eat.

And when they had eaten and were filled, he commanded that they should give unto the multitude.

And when the multitude had eaten and were filled, he said unto the disciples: Behold there shall one be ordained among you, and to him will I give power that he shall break bread and bless it and give it unto the people of my church, unto all those who shall believe and be baptized in my name." Healing the Blind - May we have compassion on others

May we all have compassion on others, as the Savior did.  "And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,

Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.

And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God." (Luke 18:35-43https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/18.35-43 )

How must the Savior plead for us?

How must the Savior plead for us? What marvelous things he must ask the Father for on our behalf? "And when he had said these words, he himself also knelt upon the earth; and behold he prayed unto the Father, and the things which he prayed cannot be written, and the multitude did bear record who heard him. And after this manner do they bear record: The eye hath never seen, neither hath the ear heard, before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Jesus speak unto the Father; And no tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; and no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father" (3 Nephi 17:15-17 http://bit.ly/180Iu2k ).

Serving others as the Savior

"And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people" (Matthew 4:23, 9:35https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/4.23?lang=eng#22 ). May we all, in our own way, do the work of the Savior, and lift others in their daily labors and cares of life.

"Ye are only in the service of your God"

"And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."

May we all serve others, take the time to really serve others, and learn to love the work of the Savior. When we do, it is as if we are doing it to him.

Scripture is Mosiah 2:17 (https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/mosiah/2.17 )

Learn of Me

Today's message and picture come from Liz Lemon Swindle, the artist, who continues to paint pictures of the Savior even though she has rheumatoid arthritis, and every brushstroke is painful. "Early in His ministry, Jesus sat on the shores of Galilee and said to the multitudes, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden... take my yoke upon you, and learn of me... and you shall find rest unto your souls."
(Matthew 11:28-29)

We each feel "heavy laden" at times and pray the Lord will take away our burdens. But rather than remove our sufferings the Lord instead asks us to walk alongside Him yoked together. It is only as we walk with Him we come to learn who He is and how much He loves us. While our burdens are still upon our shoulders, when we walk together with the Lord and let Him carry them our burdens feel lighter and we find the rest He gives so freely."

Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Treasure these things up in your hearts, and let the solemnities of eternity rest upon your minds." (D&C 43:34 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/43.34 )

May we treasure up the words of Christ, and follow him, so we may return to our Father in Heaven again with him.
