Christmas, and our Gratitude for the Savior

At this time of year, may we all be grateful for the Savior, whose work began long before his birth, and will extend into the eternities and beyond. May we be grateful for all the blessings of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. To know that our Father in Heaven Loves us, and has prepared a way for us and our families to return back to him, after a life filled with the gifts of the spirit.

Silent Night - Christmas Devotional

The Birth of the Savior of the World

Over 2000 years ago, the Savior was born in a lowly stable, watched over by the angels of heaven. This great church is a continuation of his life and mission, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. May we all take the opportunity to be grateful this time of year for the Blessings we have because of the Life of the Savior, commemorated at Christmastime. His love did not just begin at his birth. It reaches from before the foundations of the World and into the eternities and beyond. Please take the time to thank our Father in Heaven for the Life, atonement, death, resurrection, and work of the Savior, for "[He is] the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/14.6?lang=eng#5 )

Families can be Together Forever - Mormon Messages

In His Light

May we become as children, and trust in the Lord, as they do, for children come down pure from Heaven. From 3 Nephi "Behold, it came to pass on the morrow that the multitude gathered themselves together, and they both saw and heard these children; yea, even babes did open their mouths and utter marvelous things; and the things which they did utter were forbidden that there should not any man write them." (3 Nephi 26:16 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/26.16?lang=eng#15 )

He will wipe away our tears

The Lord is there to comfort us in hard times. "For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes" (Revelation 7:17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/rev/7.17?lang=eng#16 )

The Civility Experiment - Mormon Messages

Silent Night - Christmas

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth "

Lyrics By Joseph Mohr

For, "your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him." (Matthew 6:8) "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive" (Matthew 21:22). "For the Prayers of the Faithful shall be heard" (2 Nephi 26:15)

May we give thanks, and be nurtured by the spirit ourselves by feasting on the Word of God and feeling of the spirit that attends that. "He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks" (Romans 14:6 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/rom/14.6?lang=eng#5 )

The Road Ahead

When we are beyond the limits of what our body and mind can handle, when we are tested beyond what we can experience, may we take comfort in knowing there is a perfect, caring, loving Savior who can comfort us and lift us; He knows the road ahead, because he has travelled it. Both in his life, and through the Atonement. He overcame it, and because he did, if we pour out our hearts to him in faith, he will lift us and help us.

The Savior had compassion and attended to a sorrowing Mary with some of the most wonderful words ever spoken. The Risen Lord

The Lord did show himself unto the people of the Book of Mormon, after he was resurrected. "And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto them saying: Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world. And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in his hands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come. And when they had all gone forth and had witnessed for themselves, they did cry out with one accord, saying: Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him" (3 Nephi 11:13-17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11.13-17?lang=eng#12 )

The Savior Praying...

The Savior praying. The scripture is of him praying for those in the Americas. Such wonderful things have never been written. "And when he had said these words, he himself also knelt upon the earth; and behold he prayed unto the Father, and the things which he prayed cannot be written, and the multitude did bear record who heard him. And after this manner do they bear record: The eye hath never seen, neither hath the ear heard, before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Jesus speak unto the Father; And no tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; and no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father" (3 Nephi 17:15-17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/17.15-17?lang=eng#14 )

The Savior has trodden the winepress alone...

At that darkest hour, he willingly atoned for our sins. "For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent; But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I; Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink—Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men" (Doctrine and Covenants 19:16-19 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/19.16-19?lang=eng#15 )

Light of the World - Jesus Christ

The Love of the Savior extends from before the foundations of the Earth into the eternities and beyond. It never ends. The power of his love can change our hearts, and prepare us to live in the presence of God. Our salvation is his very reason for existence. He is personal enough to know the pains in the quiet chambers of our hearts, and can help transform those into lives filled with Love. He can work miracles in all of our lives, and truly does, if we but have faith and come unto him. "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 14:6 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/14.6?lang=eng#5 ;John 3:16 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/3.16?lang=eng#15 )

Christ being Baptized

"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:16-17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/3.16-17?lang=eng#15 )

Christ stilling the Storm

Know that God is over all, and has power over all things.  "And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him" (Matthew 8:24-28 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/8.24-27?lang=eng#23 )

In His Hands

In his hands. May we all be grateful there is one Lord over all, and the world is in his hands. He is more glorious, righteous, and powerful than any man or organization that ever lived in the earth. May we be grateful for that. The Book of Mormon

The Book of Mormon is the inspired Word of God. From the title page, it is "to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations" Prophets were told by God what to include in the book for us in our day. Moroni says "Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto
me, and I know your doing." From the Prophet Joseph Smith “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book." Read the Book of Mormon online here https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm?lang=eng, and Mormon 8:35 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/morm/8.35?lang=eng#34 )

Opportunities to Do Good - Mormon Messages

Here's a wonderful example of finding an opportunity to do good.  As we serve others, within our homes, or other places, we are doing the work of the Savior.  As President Monsen says, "May we ever be found doing the work of the Lord."

Vote, as those of the Book of Mormon did...

In the days of the reign of the Judges in the Book of Mormon, everyone cast their vote for the government of the land, so their voice could be heard for who to govern them. How blessed we are to have that same opportunity. Even as our freedoms are being eroded, we have a say in the direction this country will go, and who will assume leadership. This is just an amazing opportunity we have to participate, and to let our voices be heard, to be known here on earth and by angels in heaven, to know what we voted for, and who we want to have represent us.

The Sermon on the Mount

May we be people as the Savior would have us be, and find comfort in him. From the Sermon on the mount: "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the
merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you ( Matthew 5:3-12 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/5.3-12?lang=eng#2

And He Numbereth his Sheep...

What wonderful promises the Lord makes with the analogy of sheep and the Good Shepherd. "And he gathereth his children from the four quarters of the earth; and he numbereth his sheep, and they know him; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd; and he shall feed his sheep, and in him they shall find pasture" (1 Nephi 22:25 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/2
2.25?lang=eng#24) and of us working in the flock, "Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away" ( 1 Peter 5:2-4 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/1-pet/5.2-4?lang=eng#1 )

The Book of Mormon: A Book with a Promise

Joseph Smith called the Book of Mormon the "most correct of any Book on earth," and we would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts than any other book. As you read the Book of Mormon, may the spirit teach you, and that book come alive as you feel the spirit testify of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
