"Lead, Kindly Light..."

"Lead, Kindly Light, amidst th'encircling gloom,
Lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home,
Lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me....
Meantime, along the narrow rugged path,
Thyself hast trod,
Lead, Saviour, lead me home in childlike faith,
Home to my God.
To rest forever after earthly strife
In the calm light of everlasting life." (Hymn, Lead Kindly Light)

"He is despised and rejected of men"

Please take a moment to read the beautiful words of Isaiah about the Savior, for the Savior knows us, understands us, as no one ever can, and has atoned for our sins because he loves us. "For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. ¶Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. "From all eternity to all eternity, The Great I Am, even Jesus Christ..."

"Hearken and listen to the voice of him who is from all eternity to all eternity, the Great I Am, even Jesus Christ—The light and the life of the world; a light which shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehendeth it not." As the Savior followed the Father in all things, even to Gethsemane and Golgotha, may we similarly follow the Savior in all things we may be called to go through, and to have the spirit to be with us for time, and to live in the presence of God and the Lamb for all eternity.

Christ's Love

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (http://bit.ly/12NHwk2) Of this truth the Savior said to Peter "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (http://bit.ly/16y1Yey)

The Savior loves us with a love we cannot comprehend. He descended below all things so that we may return back to him and our Father in Heaven again with our families.

May we all take the time to pour our hearts out in gratitude to our Father in Heaven for the gift of his only begotten son, and take a moment afterwards to wait for the Lord's response through the spirit. Then, may we love others as the Savior would have us do.

Let your Light So Shine, as do little children...

As I held my 4 year-old daughter close, I realized that she lets her light shine, as do all little children. Is it any wonder that the Savior loves little children?

The Savior has said And said, "Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/18.3 )

May we all let our lights shine, as do little children, for the Savior said "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/5.16 ).

Gethsemane

Please take a moment to read what the scriptures say about Gethsemane, and the price paid by the Savior: "And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." (Luke 22:41-44 http://bit.ly/176nSVT )

If the Savior only had to pay the price for one, and that one person were you, he would still atone. May we ever be grateful that our loving, kind, sensitive Savior paid an infinite price for the sins of each of us. My heart is pained yet full of gratitude to know that my Brother, my Savior, my Redeemer paid the price for my sins. He still lives and loves each of us.

Abide with Me

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 5:16 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/5.16 )

"In this painting I wanted to depict the Savior with open arms, welcoming and inviting us to come unto Him, the Prince of Peace. My intention was to create an expression of His softness, forgiveness, and understanding; for He knows us and seeks after us that we may find rest and peace in Him.

I can imagine that in such an instance all other details and personal insecurities will fade away - and because of this I intentionally painted Him in white with a soft white background with no other details to distract us from Him. If we will follow Him and learn of Him we will truly find ourselves in His rest." ~ Simon Dewey

Peace on Earth

Please take a moment to read. May we all be grateful that the Savior is over all, and that even with all that goes wrong in the world, that the world is in our Savior's loving hands because of the atonement. He is more loving, glorious, righteous, and powerful than any man or organization that ever existed in the earth, and is yet so personal that he can gently touch the deepest chambers of the most pained heart.

Everything in the world that is good is good because of the power of the atonement, and everything around us in the world exists because of God. "And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands" (Hebrews 1:10 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/heb/1.10?lang=eng#9 ).

"Become as Little Children..."

As I held my 4 year old daughter close today, I realized she, like all children, lets her light shine. Is it no wonder the Savior loved children so much?

When asked who was greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven the Savior did and said the following: "Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."

They Did Not Doubt

Here are the words of Helaman's Stripling Warriors about God's Promises: "behold our God is with us, and he will not suffer that we should fall; then let us go forth...Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them. And they rehearsed unto me the words of their mothers, saying: We do not doubt our mothers knew it." (Alma 56:46-48 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/56.46-48 )

The Savior healed a man at the pool of Bethesda by saying to him compassionately "'Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.' And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked."

Inviting him In

Do we invite the Savior into our homes, into our thoughts, and into our lives? Do we turn off the distractions and invite the spirit in? He yearns for us to do so, and pleads for us to. "His invitation is one of the grandest outpourings of spiritual emotion known to man: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Jesus the Christ, Quoting Matthew 11:28-30 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/11.28-30 ).

The Savior is there to comfort us as we reach out to him in Faith, for he understands our trials. "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: ...Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows..." (Isaiah 53:3-4 http://bit.ly/1cObHfQ )

Learn of Me...

Today's message and picture come from Liz Lemon Swindle, the artist, who continues to paint even though every brushstroke is painful. "Early in His ministry, Jesus sat on the shores of Galilee and said to the multitudes, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden... take my yoke upon you, and learn of me... and you shall find rest unto your souls."
(Matthew 11:28-29)

We each feel "heavy laden" at times and pray the Lord will take away our burdens. But rather than remove our sufferings the Lord instead asks us to walk alongside Him yoked together. It is only as we walk with Him we come to learn who He is and how much He loves us. While our burdens are still upon our shoulders, when we walk together with the Lord and let Him carry them our burdens feel lighter and we find the rest He gives so freely."

God so loved the World...

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ..."

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. And behold, I am the light and the life of the world..." (3 Nephi 11:10-11 http://bit.ly/12Rtrnb). The Savior also said

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:29-30 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/11.29-30?lang=eng#28 ). May we all come to know the love of the Savior of our souls, have him take our burdens, and in him find rest.

The Baptism of the Savior

"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:16-17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/3.16-17?lang=eng#15 )

May we follow the example of the Savior in all things, from baptism on up, in everything we do.

"My glory shall rest upon it..."

"my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God" (D & C 97:15-16 http://bit.ly/14GTNd6 )

In temples we become connected to our families and to God forever, and when we go there we are able to feel of the presence of the Lord. The spirit in temples is stronger than in any other place on earth. Find out more about temples by going to http://www.lds.org/church/temples

Fisher of Men - He Beckons to us

"And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him." (Matthew 4:18-20 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/4.18-20 )

The Savior similarly beckons us to follow him. May we do that and have the spirit of the Lord to be with us as we are examples for others.
