Endowed with power in the Presence of God

“Your endowment is, to receive all those ordinances in the house of the Lord, which are necessary for you, after you have departed this life, to enable you to walk back to the presence of the Father, … and gain your eternal exaltation.” Brigham Young in Discourses of Brigham Young, sel. John A. Widtsoe (1941), 416.

In temples we become connected to our families and to God forever, and when we go there we are able to feel of the presence of the Lord. The spirit in temples is stronger than in any other place on earth. While there we can perform sacred ordinances for our ancestors that are necessary for them to return to the presence of God.

The Lord has said about his temples "my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God" (D & C 97:15-16 http://bit.ly/14GTNd6 )

May we go to the temple often, to do the work for our dead, so that they can return to the presence of their Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ, and to be able to feel of the presence of the Lord ourselves as we go there.

I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God - The Love of the Savior

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I am the life and the light of the world. I am the same who came unto mine own and mine own received me not;
But verily, verily, I say unto you, that as many as receive me, to them will I give power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on my name. Amen."
The Savior's love can reach the furthest part of the hardest heart, and can give comfort to the tenderest soul. He knows each of us individually, and is involved in the details of our lives in a way we cannot comprehend. He is there. He is real.
May we all become the sons and daughters of God, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. May we follow him, emulate him, and at the end, return back to him and our Father in Heaven again.

The Healing Power of the Savior, and the Priesthood

The Savior healed a man at the pool of Bethesda by saying to him compassionately "'Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.' And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked."
May we all have faith in the Savior who is full of compassion, and who can comfort us, strengthen us, and heal us of our physical and spiritual infirmities. And because of him we will be able to return to him and our Father in Heaven again.
That same Priesthood Power that the Savior had is again on the earth to bless all of Heavenly Father's children.  May we ever have reverence for that power.  It is what binds all of us together to the Savior, and will bless the lives of all humankind who come to Christ.

He is not here, for he is Risen

“He is not here: for he is risen” (Matthew 28:6)
May we all be grateful for these words, spoken by a heavenly messenger 2 millenia ago. The center of the entire plan of salvation was forever in place, and there was a way for our salvation and resurrection, and a way for blessings to be poured out upon us in this life as well. Eternal life in the world to come and happiness here were made possible by it.
Each time we are comforted by the spirit, each time we are strengthened by the Lord, each time we reach out in service, anytime we do anything good, all of that was made possible and was announced by the words "He is Risen"

Bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven

After Peter declared that Jesus was the Christ, The Savior said to him "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/16.19 )
That is what happens in Temples. This power to bind on earth and in heaven was restored to the prophet Joseph Smith and recorded in the Doctrine and covenants multiple times (D&C 127:7, D&C 124:93, D&C 132:46, D&C 128).
Because of the miracle of the Restoration of the Gospel, the sacred temple ordinances the Savior established in New Testament times have been restored to this earth to bless our Father in Heaven's children. With the miracle of temple work, all of Father in Heaven's children who have ever lived on the earth, and who would have accepted it if they were alive, will be able to have the opportunity to accept or reject those blessings, and inherit all that our Father in Heaven has. And these blessings were spoken of in the Bible.
And for us, when we go to the temple to do the work of our dead, we are able to feel of God's presence. The Doctrine and Covenants states "my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it., and all the pure in heart shall see God" (D & C 97:15-16http://bit.ly/14GTNd6 )

"Behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me..."

The Book of Mormon was meant for us, today. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, showed the prophets of the Book of Mormon our day, because he knew what we would need to know. Listen to Moroni: "Behold, the Lord hath shown unto me great and marvelous things concerning that which must shortly come, at that day when these things shall come forth among you. Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing" (Mormon 8:34-35 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/morm/8.34-35?lang=eng#33 )
Moroni also gave us the promise of the Book of Mormon, "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
The Book of Mormon was kept and preserved, and hidden away by Moroni and revealed by God for us in our day. The Book of Mormon is not just another Book of Scripture. The word of God, as given from the Savior to his prophets, has been given to us so that it might speak the truth to generations seeking after the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Savior of the World

"I testify that Jesus Christ, born in Bethlehem, was and is the Only Begotten of the Father, the Lamb of God. He chose from before the foundations of the earth to be your Savior, my Savior, and the Savior of all we will ever know or meet."—Henry B. Eyring, "Always", Ensign, Liahona, October 1999 https://www.lds.org/ensign/1999/10/always

Christ is our Savior and Redeemer, and the Savior and Redeemer of all.  It is only through him that we will be able to return to the presence of our Father in Heaven again with our families.  May we ever follow him, as President Monson counsels, and be ever found doing the work of the Lord.

Elder Packer testifies of seeing the Savior

"After all the years that I have lived and taught and served, after the millions of miles I have traveled around the world, with all that I have experienced, there is one great truth that I would share. That is my witness of the Savior Jesus Christ.
Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon recorded the following after a sacred experience:
“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!
“For we saw him” (D&C 76:22–23).
Their words are my words.
I believe and I am sure that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that He lives. He is the Only Begotten of the Father, and “by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:24).
I bear my witness that the Savior lives. I know the Lord. I am His witness. I know of His great sacrifice and eternal love for all of Heavenly Father’s children. I bear my special witness in all humility but with absolute certainty, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen." - Boyd K Packer, Apostle of the Lord

President Eyring Sees the Savior, Jesus Christ

Read President Eyring testify he has seen the Savior, Jesus Christ. "I am a witness of the Resurrection of the Lord as surely as if I had been there in the evening with the two disciples in the house on Emmaus road. I know that He lives as surely as did Joseph Smith when he saw the Father and the Son in the light of a brilliant morning in a grove of trees in Palmyra.

This is the true Church of Jesus Christ. Only in the priesthood keys held by President Thomas S. Monson is the power for us to be sealed in families to live forever with our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We will on the Day of Judgment stand before the Savior, face to face. It will be a time of joy for those who have drawn close to Him in His service in this life. It will be a joy to hear the words: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”19 I so testify as a witness of the risen Savior and our Redeemer in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."

The Hands of Heaven on Earth - Womanhood

The Relief Society teaches that the women in our lives are the hands of heaven on earth, and there is no phrase more descriptive I can think of than that to describe the women and mothers in our lives.

May we realize the divine nature they have, and show the love to these daughters of God that the Savior would show to them if he were here. For they are righteously raising his children, both as parents and leaders. They raise their own and/or help raise others children.

From President Hinckley "wherever you may live, may the windows of heaven be opened and blessings come down upon you. May you live with love one for another. May you reach down to lift up those whose burdens are heavy. May you bring light and beauty to the world and particularly into your homes and into the lives of your children.
You know as I do that God our Eternal Father lives. He loves you. You know as I do that Jesus is the Christ, His immortal Son, our Redeemer. You know that the gospel is true and that heaven is near if we will cultivate it in our lives.”

And to those who have no children. You make such wonderful contributions, and the Lord has promised you a fulness of joy, that your righteous desires will be fulfilled, and that no blessing will be witheld from you in the eternities.

Lehi in Jerusalem - The Tender Mercies of the Lord

"Therefore, I would that ye should know, that after the Lord had shown so many marvelous things unto my father, Lehi, yea, concerning the destruction of Jerusalem, behold he went forth among the people, and began to prophesy and to declare unto them concerning the things which he had both seen and heard.

And it came to pass that the Jews did mock him because of the things which he testified of them; for he truly testified of their wickedness and their abominations; and he testified that the things which he saw and heard, and also the things which he read in the book, manifested plainly of the coming of a Messiah, and also the redemption of the world.

And when the Jews heard these things they were angry with him; yea, even as with the prophets of old, whom they had cast out, and stoned, and slain; and they also sought his life, that they might take it away. But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance." Modern and Ancient Apostles have seen the Savior, Jesus Christ, and their duty is to preach Christ to the world...

“I bear witness to you that those who hold the apostolic calling may, and do, know of the reality of the mission of the Lord” (Stand Ye in Holy Places [1974], 64–65).

Apostles know for certain by personal revelation that Jesus is the Christ and that He lives as a resurrected being. The scriptures explain that “with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 4:33).

President Joseph F. Smith (1838–1918) explained the sacred nature of their calling: “These twelve disciples of Christ are supposed to be eye and ear witnesses of the divine mission of Jesus Christ. It is not permissible for them to say, I believe, simply; I have accepted it simply because I believe it. Read the revelation, the Lord informs us they must know, they must get the knowledge for themselves. It must be with them as though they had seen with their eyes and heard with their ears and they know the truth.

That is their mission, to testify of Jesus Christ and Him crucified and risen from the dead and clothed now with almighty power at the right hand of God, the Savior of the world.

That is their mission, and their duty, and that is the doctrine and the truth that it is their duty to preach to the world and see that it is preached to the world” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1916, 6). Jesus Christ appears in the Americas after his Resurrection

"And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto them saying: Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world.

And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in his hands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come.

And when they had all gone forth and had witnessed for themselves, they did cry out with one accord, saying: Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him" (3 Nephi 11:13-17https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11.13-17?lang=eng#12 )

The Savior Praying and his example to us

Examples of the Savior Praying are few but powerful in the scriptures. In addition to the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13, of an obedient son praying to his loving Father, there is more.

Modern Revelation gives us prayers from the Savior that caused the people who heard it to be overcome by the Spirit.

In the Book of Mormon, when he visited the people of the Americas, accounts are given of him praying for the people to the Father. Here is a tender, yet powerful account of a prayer he prayed:

"he himself also knelt upon the earth; and behold he prayed unto the Father, and the things which he prayed cannot be written, and the multitude did bear record who heard him.

And after this manner do they bear record: The eye hath never seen, neither hath the ear heard, before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Jesus speak unto the Father;

And no tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; and no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father.

And it came to pass that when Jesus had made an end of praying unto the Father, he arose; but so great was the joy of the multitude that they were overcome" (3 Nephi 17:15-18 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/17.15-18 )

May we ever be grateful for a Savior who is our advocate with the Father, who stands in and is able to welcome us back to the presence of the Father.

As we pour our hearts out in prayer, may we truly commune with our Father in Heaven and Savior, Jesus Christ through the spirit. May we feel of their love for us as we serve others and study and ponder the scriptures.

For God is real, and is active in our lives, and is preparing for us to return to him, to live in glory with him, forever engaged in his work.

Light of the World-I am the Way...

In a world seemingly full of turmoil, the Love of the Savior stretches from before the foundations of the Earth into the eternities and beyond. It never ends.
The power of his love touch the tenderest or hardest of hearts, and prepare us to live in the presence of God. Our salvation is his very reason for existence. He is personal enough to know the pains in the quiet chambers of our hearts, and can help transform those into lives filled with Love. He can work miracles in all of our lives, and truly does, if we but have faith and come unto him.
He said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me", and the scriptures say also "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 14:6https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/14.6 ;John 3:16https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/3.16 )

President Snow speaks with Christ Face to Face

"Lorenzo Snow was still at work in his office in the Salt Lake Temple. It was dark outside, and the stars had come out. He was the fifth President of the Church, but he was also serving as the first president of the Salt Lake Temple at the time. He often stayed late into the evening to finish his work.

President Snow’s granddaughter Allie Young loved to visit him at his office. In those days, family members of the temple president were allowed to visit him there. They were not allowed to go through the entire temple, however, until they were old enough and had been found worthy and ready to make the sacred temple covenants.

This special evening Allie was with her grandfather in his office. The doorkeepers had gone home and the night watchmen had not yet come in, so they were alone. When Allie was ready to leave, President Snow went to a dresser and took a large bunch of keys from the drawer so that he could let her out the main entrance. Together they walked down a large corridor near the celestial room.

President Snow suddenly stopped and said, “Wait a moment, Allie. I want to tell you something.” Allie listened intently as her grandfather told her of an unforgettable experience he had once had at that place in the temple: “It was right here that the Lord Jesus Christ appeared to me at the time of the death of President Woodruff. He instructed me to go right ahead and reorganize the First Presidency of the Church at once and not wait as had been done after the death of the previous presidents, and that I was to succeed President Woodruff [as President of the Church].”

President Snow held out his left hand and said, “He stood right here, about three feet above the floor. It looked as though he stood on a plate of solid gold.”

Still speaking in hushed, reverent tones, President Snow told Allie that the Savior’s appearance was so glorious and bright that he could hardly look at Him.

President Snow put his right hand on Allie’s head and said, “Now granddaughter, I want you to remember that this is the testimony of your grandfather, that he told you with his own lips that he actually saw the Savior, here in the temple, and talked with him face to face.”

Allie listened to every word of this sacred experience and never forgot that precious moment but shared it many times later in her life with her family and friends."

President Snow’s vision was related by Susan Arrington Madsen and appeared in the Friend, Aug 1993 on page 14. It was adapted from “The Lord Needed a Prophet” page 83-83 by Susan Arrington Madsen.

A man of sorrows, and acquainted with Grief

The Savior is there to comfort us as we reach out to him in Faith, for he understands our trials. "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: ...Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows..." (Isaiah 53:3-4http://bit.ly/1cObHfQ )

The Savior went through the agony of Gethsemane, and the horrors of the Cross so that he would better be able to comfort and succor us in our trials, afflictions, pains, and suffering in this life. As one who knows where we have been, he can lift us higher.

He knows each of us intimately, and with a love that we cannot comprehend, but it changes us when we feel of it as we pour out our hearts in prayer, and as we serve others.

May our hearts be drawn out in gratitude for the Loving, Kind Savior who descended below all things so he could lift all things. He is our Savior, Redeemer, and our all.

Grace and Truth

Today's profound message comes from Simon Dewey, the artist of this painting, Grace and Truth:
"I love the Gospel of John. The opening verses of chapter one are at once poetic and sublime, simple yet profound:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God....In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” To each of us on this journey home, John’s powerful witness of the Savior remains a guide as we come to realize the reality of it for ourselves. “We beheld his glory, the glory as of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”(John 1:14) -Simon Dewey
May we all live worthy so that when we see the Savior, we will be able to behold his glory, and live in his presence again. He is the Life and the Light of men. And he is real, and involved in the details of our lives, and if we trust in him, he will lead us back to our heavenly home.

The Gathering of Israel - On Both Sides of the Veil

The Gathering of Israel is happening both on earth and in the heavens, both literally by people coming to the gospel and through temple work. We are all a part of this great work in bringing many to the knowledge of their Redeemer, Jesus Christ, and to help them return to his presence. And that work is being done on both sides of the veil. Listen to the Book of Mormon on the subject:
"And as surely as the Lord liveth, will he gather in from the four quarters of the earth all the remnant of the seed of Jacob, who are scattered abroad upon all the face of the earth.
And as he hath covenanted with all the house of Jacob, even so shall the covenant wherewith he hath covenanted with the house of Jacob be fulfilled in his own due time, unto the restoring all the house of Jacob unto the knowledge of the covenant that he hath covenanted with them.
And then shall they know their Redeemer, who is Jesus Christ, the Son of God; and then shall they be gathered in from the four quarters of the earth unto their own lands, from whence they have been dispersed; yea, as the Lord liveth so shall it be. Amen." (3 Nephi 5:24-26https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/5.24-26 )

The Good Shepherd who knows all of you-and loves you

Our Shepherd is our Savior, our Redeemer, our all. He is the author of our salvation, and intimately connected to each of our lives. He has felt exactly your pains, sorrows, sins, and beckons for you to come unto him and have your burdens lifted. He loves you with a love you cannot comprehend until you have felt it. And then comes a remembrance of his love, that love that extends from before the foundations of the world into the eternities. He is the good Shepherd. What wonderful words of peace and blessings come from him.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of ddeath, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." (Psalms 23 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/ot/ps/23 ).

The Redeemer of the World

"I am Alpha and Omega, Christ the Lord; yea, even I am he, the beginning and the end, the Redeemer of the world.

I, having accomplished and finished the will of him whose I am, even the Father, concerning me—having done this that I might subdue all things unto myself—" (D&C 19:1-2 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/19.1-2 )

The Savior has overcome all things so that we can return home again, and so that here we may be comforted, strengthened, helped, encouraged, and may feel of God's love in all ways and in all righteous things.

All the tender feelings of the spirit, all of the miracles that happen, all of the love we feel and the good we do are made possible by the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

And because of that, we may inherit all the Father has.

"the Father of heaven and earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning;"

"And he shall be called Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning;" (Mosiah 3:8 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/mosiah/3.8 )

The Savior, under the direction of the Father, created this earth, and has been at the center of the plan of salvation since before the beginning of the earth.

The Savior is over all, and holds the keys to our salvation. His atonement and his love stretch from before the beginnings of the world and extend into the eternities and beyond.

And us. We are his children, born to help in his work, and with a mandate to serve. He has called us to lift and comfort others, to do as he would do if he were here. He who created the world wants us to become like him by doing what he did when he was here on earth.

May we come to him and find peace both in this life and feel of the embrace of our Savior and Creator in the world to come.

"Looking for that Blessed Hope..."

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. (D&C 43:34, other scriptures ). Both to Prophets and in his ministry, the Savior declared that he was and is the Savior of the World.
And he will come again. We are "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ"
When that glorious day comes, no matter what side of the veil we may be on, may we be ready to greet him with joy, having done all that we could to build his kingdom by serving others, lifting them, and by "strengthening the feeble knees" (Elder Holland)
In this way, may we all truly love the Savior, so that he says to us at the last day "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matthew 25:40), and as is said in verse 46, gain eternal life.
The Savior loves all of his children, and longs to lift each of them, and we are God's hands on earth. We have a "mandate to serve" as President Monson says (and does).
May we do that and feel of the spirit in this life, and the warm embrace of our Savior in the world to come.

The First Vision

"I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!" (Joseph Smith-History 1:16-17https://www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1.16-17?lang=eng#15 )

Joseph Smith Saw God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. He bore that testimony his entire life. In Joseph's words "I had actually seen a light, and in the midst of that light I saw two Personages, and they did in reality speak to me; and though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true...I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it."
Through subsequent visions and heavenly visitations, Christ's true gospel was restored to the earth, to bless us in this life, and to be exalted in the next, to dwell with our Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ forever.
I hope you take a moment in your prayers to thank our Father in Heaven for the blessings of the Restoration, to let him know you love him, and wait for the response as you do. You will be able to feel of the love of God for you. This restoration is so individual and personal as to be able to lift you in all your cares of life.
