Isaiah's visions of the Birth and Life of Christ (some)

Read what Isaiah saw about the Savior: "unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6).

Over 2000 years ago, the Savior of the World was born in a humble stable, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. His coming had been prophesied of by Isaiah and many other prophets.

The Savior came, as Isaiah also said, "to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound," (Isaiah 61:1) and he did that for both the living and the dead.

This great latter-day work goes on still, for the living and the dead through missionary work, strengthening the members, and through the work of the dead in temples. This work will go on until, as the Standard of truth says, "The Great Jehovah shall say the work is done."

At that time, the work begun from before the foundations of the world will be complete, and the Sons and Daughters of God will dwell with him forever.

Become engaged in serving others, and in the work of the Lord. At this Christmas season and always, may we ever seek out the Babe in Bethlehem, our Savior, Our Redeemer, our all.

"Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God..."

And His name shall be called wonderful, counsellor, the mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. http://www.lds.org/scriptures/ot/isa/9.6

As Isaiah Prophecied, Christ came and gave to us a priceless gift. His life, and in so doing, saved all of ours. Because of him we can return home to our Father in Heaven again.

Pour your hearts out in gratitude to our Father in Heaven for the blessing of the Savior in your life. Let your Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ know how much you love them. Then, take a moment to wait and feel of the love they have for you. Then share that love with others. That kind of love changes you forever.

A Christmas Message-Still Time to Serve

How much have you been able to give to others and to the Savior this last year? As this year’s Christmas approaches, can you say that you have followed the Savior more this year, and have served others more? Make that your gift to the Savior this year.

Have we gone to the temple more, have we given more of ourselves, have we helped make others’ lives better? That is the true spirit of Christmas, and should impel us to be better all year through.

There is still time to serve. As the Prophet has said, “There are hearts to gladden. There are kind words to say. There are gifts to be given. There are deeds to be done. There are souls to be saved. “

So take some time. Think of those who are sad, lonely, need help and help them. Take an extra trip to the temple to help someone else return to the presence of the Father. Share the gospel in whatever way you can, and you will catch the true spirit of Christmas.

As the Prophet has said, you need only take off the last syllable of Christmas and it becomes the spirit of Christ.

May we live with that this Christmas season, and all year round.

"And there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus"- The Promised Savior about to be born

"And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed...And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child" (Luke 2:1-5 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/2.1-5 )

The Prophesied of Savior was about to be born.  He is the true reason for this Season.  Without him we wouldn't have Christmas.  We are the recipients of the priceless gift of his birth, life, ministry, atonement, death, and resurrection, and triumph over sin and death.  No more sacred events have ever been recorded than than these, both in the old world and the new.

This year, make a determination to study more of his life, to learn more of him, and to follow him.  He is real, and is active in our lives, more than we know.  Remember he is the God of the whole world, yet individual enough to touch our tender hearts.

What Church Leaders say about Gratitide

At this time of year, may we remember President Monson's words, "to live with gratitude ever in our hearts is to touch heaven."

Gratitude is the most important thing we can have in our hearts. It gives us life and connects us with our Father in Heaven, and Savior Jesus Christ.

Here is more of what our leaders say about gratitude:
“He who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious” (D&C 78:19). Gratitude is an uplifting, exalting attitude. People are generally happier when they have gratitude in their hearts. We cannot be bitter, resentful, or mean-spirited when we are grateful.

We should be thankful for the wonderful blessings that are ours and for the tremendous opportunities we have. We can be thankful to our parents, family, friends, and teachers. We should express appreciation to everyone who has assisted us in any way.

We should thank our Heavenly Father for His goodness to us by acknowledging His hand in all things, thanking Him for all that He gives us, keeping His commandments, and serving others. We should especially thank Him for His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, for the Savior's great example, for His teachings, for His outreaching hand to lift and help, for His infinite Atonement."

At this time of year and always, may we ever remember to have gratitude in all things, and especially for our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our Prophet speaks about Gratitude for Christ

At this season, read what our prophet has said about Gratitude, including gratitude for the Savior:

"Sincerely giving thanks not only helps us recognize our blessings, but it also unlocks the doors of heaven and helps us feel God’s love...

to live with gratitude ever in our hearts is to touch heaven.

As I close this morning, it is my prayer that in addition to all else for which we are grateful, we may ever reflect our gratitude for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His glorious gospel provides answers to life’s greatest questions: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where do our spirits go when we die? That gospel brings to those who live in darkness the light of divine truth.

He taught us how to pray. He taught us how to live. He taught us how to die. His life is a legacy of love. The sick He healed; the downtrodden He lifted; the sinner He saved.

Ultimately, He stood alone. Some Apostles doubted; one betrayed Him. The Roman soldiers pierced His side. The angry mob took His life. There yet rings from Golgotha’s hill His compassionate words: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”

Who was this “man of sorrows, … acquainted with grief”? “Who is this King of glory,” this Lord of lords? He is our Master. He is our Savior.

He is the Son of God. He is the Author of Our Salvation. He beckons, “Follow me.” He instructs, “Go, and do thou likewise.” He pleads, “Keep my commandments.”

Let us follow Him. Let us emulate His example. Let us obey His words. By so doing, we give to Him the divine gift of gratitude.

My sincere, heartfelt prayer is that we may in our individual lives reflect that marvelous virtue of gratitude. May it permeate our very souls, now and evermore. In the sacred name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, amen." (From "The Divine Gift of Gratitude,  at https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2010/10/the-divine-gift-of-gratitude )

The Miracle of the Holy Bible - for International Day of the Bible

Today is the International Day of the Bible. Listen to Elder Ballard's counsel on the Bible, and share it on Facebook and twitter with the hashtag #BibleCelebration

"My brothers and sisters, the Holy Bible is a miracle! It is a miracle that the Bible’s 4,000 years of sacred and secular history were recorded and preserved by the prophets, apostles, and inspired churchmen.

It is a miracle that we have the Bible’s powerful doctrine, principles, poetry, and stories. But most of all, it is a wonderful miracle that we have the account of the life, ministry, and words of Jesus, which was protected through the Dark Ages and through the conflicts of countless generations so that we may have it today.

It is a miracle that the Bible literally contains within its pages the converting, healing Spirit of Christ, which has turned men’s hearts for centuries, leading them to pray, to choose right paths, and to search to find their Savior.

The Holy Bible is well named. It is holy because it teaches truth, holy because it warms us with its spirit, holy because it teaches us to know God and understand His dealings with men, and holy because it testifies throughout its pages of the Lord Jesus Christ." "men whose hearts swell with thanksgiving to God"

Elder Bednar on Prayers of Gratitude with the Brethren: "The most meaningful and spiritual prayers I have experienced contained many expressions of thanks and few, if any, requests. As I am blessed now to pray with apostles and prophets, I find among these modern-day leaders of the Savior’s Church the same characteristic that describes Captain Moroni in the Book of Mormon: these are men whose hearts swell with thanksgiving to God for the many privileges and blessings which He bestows upon His people (see Alma 48:12)."

May we follow the example of our leaders, and may we also be like Moroni of old, with hearts swelled with Thanksgiving to God for the many blessings bestowed upon us.

"He taught the truths of eternity..."

"He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New. Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth. “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3).

Though sinless, He was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. He “went about doing good” (Acts 10:38), yet was despised for it. His gospel was a message of peace and goodwill. He entreated all to follow His example. He walked the roads of Palestine, healing the sick, causing the blind to see, and raising the dead.

He taught the truths of eternity, the reality of our premortal existence, the purpose of our life on earth, and the potential for the sons and daughters of God in the life to come." (The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles. Learn more about Christ at bit.ly/1IdjaXR )

As stated by his special witnesses, The Savior, Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the World, who taught the truths of eternity, and continues to do so through apostles and prophets. He is there for us as we turn to him, through the gift of the spirit. May we ever be grateful for him.

"and he shall give you another comforter"

When we have the holy ghost, or the comforter, it is as if the Savior were there with us.  "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;" (John 14:16 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/14.16 ) .

How many times when we have hard times would we love to have the Savior there, beside us, comforting us, strengthening us, and helping us in every way.  Through the spirit and with the power of prayer, it can be that way.

May we ever turn to the Savior of all in all things, in sickness and in health, good times and bad, and feel of his comforting influence.

From a child-"You need to pray to Jesus to help you."

How often do we trust our Father in Heaven as little children trust their parents? One time when I was having a hard time, my 5 year-old daughter came up to me and trustingly said "You need to pray to Jesus to help you." What a powerful lesson that as we trust our Savior, and become as little children, we will be able to feel of God's love more fully in our lives.

The Scriptures say "learn of me, and be meek and lowly of heart" May we all be as little children, and learn of the Savior, trusting him and placing our faith solely in him.

As we do, we will feel a closeness to him that is beyond compare.

"Behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing"

The Book of Mormon was meant for us, today. The Savior showed the prophets of the Book of Mormon our day, because he knew what we would need to know. Listen to Moroni: "Behold, the Lord hath shown unto me great and marvelous things concerning that which must shortly come, at that day when these things shall come forth among you. Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing" (Mormon 8:34-35 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/morm/8.34-35 )

Moroni also gave us the promise of the Book of Mormon, "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."

The Book of Mormon was kept and preserved, and hidden away by Moroni and revealed by God for us in our day. The Book of Mormon is not just another Book of Scripture. The word of God, as given from the Savior to his prophets, has been given to us so that it might speak the truth to generations seeking after the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.

"Believe in God; believe that he is..."

The Savior is our Hope over all "Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend. And again, believe that ye must repent of your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves before God; and ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you; and now, if you believe all these things see that ye do them" (Mosiah 4:9-10 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/mosiah/4.9-10 )

God is over all. He is always there. In him is the perfection of Faith and the Hope of our Salvation. Repent, and come unto him, and you will feel the sweet peace of his love for you. Turn to him when you need comfort, and he will be there for you.

When you pray, let the Father know that you love him, and that you love Christ, and take a moment to feel of their love for you. For it is real and brings life and meaning to life. It wipes all other cares away for a bit. For we are his little children.

"the glory as of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth”

Today's profound message comes from Simon Dewey, the artist of this painging, Grace and Truth:
"I love the Gospel of John. The opening verses of chapter one are at once poetic and sublime, simple yet profound:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God....In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” To each of us on this journey home, John’s powerful witness of the Savior remains a guide as we come to realize the reality of it for ourselves. “We beheld his glory, the glory as of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”(John 1:14) -Simon Dewey

He who gave his life for you beckons you to come dwell with him forever.   May we all live worthy so that when we see the Savior, we will be able to behold his glory, and live in his presence again.  He is the Life and the Light of all.  He is real, and involved in the details of our lives, and if we trust in him, he will lead us back to our heavenly home, to live with him and our heavenly parents forever.

"The Firstfruits of them that slept"

"But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept." (1 Corinthians 15:20 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/1-cor/15.20 )

How glorious are the words spoken by the angel, "He is not here: for he is risen!" (Matthew 28:6 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/28.6 )

The Savior had triumphantly claimed the victory over sin and death, so that all would be resurrected, and if we live worthy, to gain eternal life and exaltation.

What wondrous words proclaimed this ultimate, eternal, infinite triumph.

May we ever follow Christ, follow his commandments, and stand strong for our beliefs.  He will ever be at our side as we do.  For he lives, and seeks to help us return to him and the presence of the Father.  The victory has already been won.

May we ever remember that.

Our Divine Redeemer-that Lives!

“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives! “For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—“That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:22–24 , taken from The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles online at https://www.lds.org/bc/content/shared/content/english/pdf/36035_000_25_livingchrist.pdf ).

Jesus Christ is our Divine Redeemer, who stands at the right hand of the Father.  He continues to work today for our salvation, and is at the head of the Church.

As we pour out our hearts to Our Father in Heaven in Prayer, may we express our gratitude and love for our Savior, Jesus Christ, for it is because of him that we can approach him in prayer, and receive answers to the deepest stirrings of our hearts.

He is there, and his love for us is beyond comprehension, but can be felt as we come unto him.

How must the Savior pray for us, and how should we pray?

How must the Savior pray for us, and how should we pray? What marvelous things the Savior must have asked the Father for on our behalf?  And how must he pray for us when he isn't in the presence of the Father? Scriptures record "And when he had said these words, he himself also knelt upon the earth; and behold he prayed unto the Father, and the things which he prayed cannot be written, and the multitude did bear record who heard him. And after this manner do they bear record: The eye hath never seen, neither hath the ear heard, before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Jesus speak unto the Father; And no tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; and no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father" (3 Nephi 17:15-17 http://bit.ly/180Iu2k ).

The Savior is our advocate with the Father, and the blessings that await us as we turn to him in prayer are just waiting to be poured out upon us, so that our "cup runneth over," both in this life, and in the life to come.  And may we become one with the Father and the Son by making our prayers more meaningful, reaching out in faith as the Father of us all listens and lovingly responds.

Call upon the Father, in the name of Christ, and pour out your heart in prayer, and pray about not just yourself, but pray for those around you, for they are God's children as well.  And then act and serve others.  If you will do this, you will find that you are more a part of the Father's plan, and will be following the example of the Savior.  And you will be able to feel a power of the spirit, and be able to feel of the abundant blessings of the Lord upon you, as our Prophet has said.

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I am the life and the light of the world. I am the same who came unto mine own and mine own received me not; But verily, verily, I say unto you, that as many as receive me, to them will I give power to become the sons [and daughters] of God, even to them that believe on my name." As we have more Faith in Christ our hearts will be changed, our desires will become more like his, and at the last day we will embrace our Savior having become like him, and what joy will fill our hearts at that time.  To really feel his loving arms around us, to feel joy that we have lived our lives so that we become like him, and to gain our exaltation as we continue serving the Lord and helping others to feel of that love we have felt.

We can feel a bit of that love every day of our lives as we serve others and do the work of the Lord.  And we will be able to share that love with others who don't have that in their lives.  Glory be to God for this marvellous plan of salvation that we have.

Pour your hearts out to the Father in gratitude and faith, do his work, and feel of the Love of the Savior in return.  For because of him, we have light in our own lives.

I am he, the beginning and the end, the Redeemer of the world.

"I am Alpha and Omega, Christ the Lord; yea, even I am he, the beginning and the end, the Redeemer of the world.

I, having accomplished and finished the will of him whose I am, even the Father, concerning me—having done this that I might subdue all things unto myself—" (D&C 19:1-2 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/19.1-2 )

The Savior has overcome all things so that we can return home again, and so that here we may be comforted, strengthened, helped, encouraged, and may feel of God's love in all ways and in all righteous things.

All the tender feelings of the spirit, all of the miracles that happen, all of the love we feel and the good we do are made possible by the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

And because of that, we may inherit all the Father has.

"'til these hands become like those from Galilee"

Please take a moment and read the lyrics of the song His Hands, by Kenneth Cope. May we all make our hands like those from Galilee.  Below that learn how you can find out more about Christ.

his hands
tools of creation
stronger than nations
power without end
and yet through them we find our truest friend
his hands
sermons of kindness
healing men's blindness
halting years of pain
children waiting to be held again

his hands would serve his whole life through
showing man what hands might do
giving, ever giving, endlessly
each day was filled with selflessness
and i'll not rest until i make of my hands what they could be
'til these hands become like those from galilee

his hands
lifting a leper
warming a beggar
calling back the dead
breaking bread, five thousand fed
his hands
hushing contention
pointing to heaven
ever free of sin
then bidding man to follow him

his hands would serve his whole life through
showing man what hands might do
giving, ever giving, endlessly
each day was filled with selflessness
and i'll not rest until i make of my hands what they could be
'til these hands become like those from galilee

his hands
clasped in agony
as he he lay pleading, bleeding in the garden
while just moments away
other hands betray him
out of greed, shameful greed
and then his hands
are trembling
straining to carry the beam that they've been nailed to
as he stumbles through the streets
heading for the hill on which he'd die
he would die
they take his hands, his mighty hands, those gentle hands
and then they pierce them, they pierce them
he lets them, because of love
from birth to death was selflessness
and clearly now i see him with his hands
calling to me
and though i'm not yet as i would be
he has shown me how i could be
i'll make my hands like those from galilee

The Savior's Atonement in Gethsemane

Please take a moment to read what the scriptures say about Gethsemane, and the price paid by the Savior: "And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." (Luke 22:41-44 http://bit.ly/176nSVT )

If the Savior only had to pay the price for one, and that one person were you, he would still atone. May we ever be grateful that our loving, kind, sensitive Savior paid an infinite price for the sins of each of us. My heart is pained yet full of gratitude to know that my Brother, my Savior, my Redeemer paid the price for my sins. He still lives and loves each of us.

"I Am the Way, the Truth, and the life..."

"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/14.6 )

Only through the Savior, Jesus Christ, may we return to our heavenly home. He is real, is aware of each of us, and as President Monson has said, he is in the details of our lives.

May we all return to our Father in Heaven again by relying on the Atonement of the Savior, Jesus Christ, and here on earth may we feel of their love as we pour our hearts out in prayer and study the scriptures.

The Lesson in the Parable of the Good Samaritan

There is much to be learned in the Parable of the Good Samaritan.  Take a moment to read this, for the lesson the Savior would have us learn is at the end.

"But he...said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise" (Luke 10:29-37 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/10.30-37 ).

May we all serve others in whatever way we can. May we lift those who are downtrodden, comfort those in need of comfort, and assist those who most need the Love of the Savior.  For the Savior has said that inasmuch as we do it to others, we have done it to him.  President Eyring commented on this when he remarked that when we give succor to others, it is as if we are reaching out and succoring the Savior.

May we ever do that.  For if we do, there is a peace of the spirit that surpasses all understanding.  It lifts everyone to whom service is rendered, and can and does lead us back to our heavenly home as we ourselves give service.

Lessons from the Road to Emmaus

"Three days after the Savior´s death, two of His disciples walked the dusty road from Jerusalem to Emmaus. As they spoke, they were joined by a traveler who asked about their conversation. The disciples replied, "Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem...they have crucified [Jesus]. But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel."

Then the stranger said, "Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?" He then opened the scriptures to them, showing how all of the prophets had testified that Christ would be crucified and rise on the third day. As night fell the disciples asked the traveler to join them for a meal. Sitting together the stranger, "...took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew...[it was Jesus]." - Luke 24:17-32 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/24.17-32

We are often like the disciples. We let the worries of the day keep us from recognizing that the Savior is walking alongside us. We are quick to treat our trials as curses, instead of trusting that with God´s perspective our "curses" may actually be blessings. May we be more willing to wait upon the Lord, and may we see things as they really are as we walk our own roads to Emmaus."

Father of Heaven and Earth, Creator of all things from the Beginning

"And he shall be called Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning;" (Mosiah 3:8 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/mosiah/3.8 )

The Savior, under the direction of the Father, created this earth, and has been at the center of the plan of salvation since before the beginning of the earth, and will forever into the eternities.

The Savior is over all, and holds the keys to our salvation. May we come to him and find peace both in this life and in the world to come.  He truly has power over all, and longs to lift us, strengthen us, and comfort us in all things.

May we ever remember that
