What Christ said to the People of The Americas when he appeared to them

"And behold, the third time they did understand the voice which they heard; and it said unto them: Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him.

And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them

And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying:

Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.

And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning (3 Nephi 11:6-8 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11.6-8 )

These passages bring such peace, as we read the Savior's words as he taught his New Testament Gospel to the Saints in the Americas, healed their sick, and blessed them and their children. May we all be grateful for the gift of the Book of Mormon in our own lives and study the words of Christ in its pages, along with the Bible.

Christ's ascension and our Part in the Power and Glory of his Second Coming

"And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." (Acts 1:10-11 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/acts/1.10-11 )

The Savior still lives today, and works for our salvation. As our prophet says, he is in the details of our lives, and he will come again, in power and great glory, to rule and reign upon the earth, as he and we his servants complete the work done in Temples and through Missionary work in these Latter-Days.

This church will never again be taken from the earth, and with Christ at its head, will be the means of bringing billions to a knowledge of Christ, of helping people to remember that they are children of a loving Father in Heaven.

As these angels said. Christ will come again, in like manner, "coming in the clouds of glory" with the angels of heaven, as Revelations says, and will finish his work upon the earth. And we will be able to help in that work, no matter what side of the veil we will be on, because he is the Savior of both the living and the dead.   What a glorious promise.  May we seek to do that now.

The Blessings of the Temple-what are they?

Many are the blessings of the temple. Take a moment to read a bit about some of what happens in temples. Temples are dedicated by those who have authority as God's House, and we receive ordinances there necessary for salvation.

First from Brigham Young “Your endowment is, to receive all those ordinances in the house of the Lord, which are necessary for you, after you have departed this life, to enable you to walk back to the presence of the Father, … and gain your eternal exaltation.” Brigham Young in Discourses of Brigham Young, sel. John A. Widtsoe (1941), 416.

The Endowment is spoken of in the New Testament, where the Savior, after he was resurrected and before sending the apostles out to teach, said to "tarry ye at Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high." (Luke 24:49 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/24.49 )

And there are the sealing ordinances there, too. After Peter declared that Jesus was the Christ, The Savior said to him "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/16.19 )

That is what happens in Temples. This power to bind on earth and in heaven was restored to the prophet Joseph Smith and recorded in the Doctrine and covenants multiple times (D&C 127:7, D&C 124:93, D&C 132:46, D&C 128).

Because of the miracle of the Restoration of the Gospel, the sacred temple ordinances the Savior established in New Testament times have been restored to this earth to bless our Father in Heaven's children. With the miracle of temple work, all of Father in Heaven's children who have ever lived on the earth, and who would have accepted it if they were alive, will be able to have the opportunity to accept or reject those blessings, and inherit all that our Father in Heaven has. And these blessings were spoken of in the Bible.

And for us, when we go to the temple to do the work of our dead, we are able to feel of God's presence. The Doctrine and Covenants states "my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it., and all the pure in heart shall see God" (D & C 97:15-16 http://bit.ly/14GTNd6 )

What supernal blessings these are! To be able to be in the presence of Christ in the temple in this life, to feel of his love for us is something traditional Christianity has lost.  God is not absent, but is in the details of our lives, and most especially we can feel of that presence in his house, the Temple.

And to be able to return to their presence in the life heareafter, to dwell with them and to help in their work of saving souls.  As little children helping their parents-even if it takes longer for the parents to teach them, so it is with us and our Father and Heaven, and Savior Jesus Christ.  They are teaching us here through the temple to become like them, and more about their divine plan for us.

"Suffer little children, and forbid them not..." Message by Liz Lemon Swindle

The message and scripture comes from the artist of this picture, Liz Lemon Swindle, who continues to paint pictures of the Savior even though she has rheumatoid arthritis, and every brush stroke is painful.

"When the people brought their little children to the Savior His disciples rebuked them, but Jesus replied, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:13-14).

The Savior must have loved being surrounded by those perfect little souls who loved Him so dearly. I can imagine Him smiling as He watched them play and laughing as they told Him stories, the kind of simple and innocent stories all little children tell. I know they felt His love and longed to stay by His side.

This picture reminds me that no matter how old we get, we are still little children of a loving Father in Heaven."-Liz Lemon Swindle

With the before message in mind, can we imagine returning to the presence of the Father and the Savior again, being pure before them, and having them spend time with us as we rejoice that we have become as little children, and have served others, lifted others, and have done the Lord's will in all things, and have been cleansed of our sins by the power of the atonement. What joy will fill our souls at that time when we feel their warm embrace.

The Authority from Christ's baptism again on the earth-for each one

"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:16-17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/3.16-17 )

The Savior followed the will of the Father "to fulfill all righteousness," and continued doing that his entire life. He was baptized by one who had authority to do so. That authority to baptize was lost for a bit, but has now been restored to the earth again through a young boy prophet as John the Baptist, as a resurrected, exalted being, laid his hands on Joseph's head and gave him the power to baptize as he had.

May we all follow the example of the Savior in all things, for he was obedient to the Father so that we could return and live with them again. He beckons us to come, follow him, to join his church, and to live worthy of the spirit and eternal life in the world to come.

Becoming our Father in Heaven's little children

Remember, you are in his hands.  May we all remember that we are our Father in Heaven's Children, and he loves us and longs to share that love with us as we become more like little children, his children.  For he will comfort us, heal us, and help us to return back again to him.  And always remember-as the song goes... "As I have loved you, love one another..."

May we also show reverence for the pure minded children in our lives. The Savior said "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God" (Mark 10:14 http://bit.ly/161bOrT )

As the Apostles, the Savior Beckons for us to follow him

"And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him." (Matthew 4:18-20 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/4.18-20 )

The Savior similarly beckons us to follow him. To serve others, to lift those who are downtrodden, to help those who cannot help themselves.  That is our charge.  May we remember the Savior's words "inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me."  May we do that and have the spirit of the Lord to be with us as we lift and serve others.

"And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him"

"And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." Luke 22:41-44 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/luke/22.41-44).

Our Savior experienced all of this so that we could repent of our sins, and return to the presence of our Father in Heaven again.

May we ever turn to him in all things, for he is our Redeemer and Savior, the Creator of all things from the beginning, our advocate with the Father.  His love for us is what drove him to endure the pain he did.

And he did that so he could lift our burdens, and comfort us in our trials.  The only perfect man who took upon him our pains and sins.  Just as he himself was strengthened, he now strengthens us.

He has ransomed us forever.  May we ever be grateful for that.

"and ye shall find rest unto your souls"

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:29-30 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/11.29-30 ).

May we all come to know the love of the Savior of our souls, have him take our burdens, and in him find rest. He descended below all things in the Garden and on the cross so that he would have the gentleness and compassion to comfort and lift us in our trials. He is the gentle Christ.

As you pray to our Father in Heaven, I hope you take the time to thank him for the gift of his only begotten son, our loving Savior, and let the Father know how much you love him and the Savior. Then take a moment to feel of the Love he has for you, the love which changes all.

You will never be the same again.

The Biblical Account of Christ himself performing baptisms

Please take a moment to read the powerful biblical story of this painting of Christ performing baptisms from the artist.  "There are many interesting stories from the New Testament and artists have painted them for hundreds of years and yet, there is one story that has never been painted.

“After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.” (John 3:22)

I was commissioned by Jerel D. Lindley to paint the story of Christ baptizing his disciples. It makes sense to me that as the greatest example, not only was He baptized, but He performed baptism for those who accepted His gospel. He showed His disciples the way.

“And they came unto John (the Baptist), and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.” (John 3:26)...

When “Jesus Himself Baptized” it was his great witness and testimony that he was the Promised Messiah sent to restore all things and establish a new gospel dispensation.

As the artist, my task was to capture the moment and emotion, as Jesus immerses one of his closest disciples.  A tear falls across her cheek. The Apostles, with other disciples, watch intently from the bank of the Jordan River. Jesus is the Great Exemplar, whose example they would follow in performing more baptisms than would Jesus.

Who is Jesus baptizing in the painting?  Though the Bible is silent, it was probably someone very close to His heart." - Jon McNaughton

"the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace."

Our Savior and Redeemer is over all, and has redeemed us forever.

"And the Government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace."  Isaiah 9:6)

This glorious Savior is real, and touches the hearts of all.  Indeed, if we serve him and serve others, we experience, as the two men on emmaus road "Did not our hearts burn within us...?"  May we seek him out, so that we may be filled with the spirit.  For he suffered so that may happen.

Christ accomplished the atonement, and bled from every pore, and suffered on the cross, and "partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men." He rose from the dead, appeared unto many, and ascended back to the Father, and has restored his gospel in the Latter-Days to prepare for his second coming.

And he will come again.  As the JST of Revelation 1:7 says: "For behold, he cometh in the clouds with ten thousands of his saints in the kingdom, clothed with the glory of his Father. And every eye shall see him; and they who pierced him..."

And his salvation will be forever, as Doctrine and Covenants 76:108 says, "Then shall he be crowned with the crown of his glory, to sit on the throne of his power to reign forever and ever."

And we will dwell with him and our families in the Celestial Kingdom as we live worthily, as is said in D & C 76: 94-95: "They who dwell in his presence are the church of the Firstborn; and they see as they are seen, and know as they are known, having received of his fulness and of his grace;

And he makes them equal in power, and in might, and in dominion."

May we ever live worthy to live in Glory with our Savior and Redeemer, our Heavenly Parents, and our Families, ancestors, and posterity forever.

What a glorious promise.

"And to know the love of Christ..."

The purpose of this life is to come to know the Savior that we may be filled with his love. "And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God." (Ephesians 3:19 http://bit.ly/1bCcMMI

To have that charity is to gain the fulness of God. "charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him." (Moroni 7:47 http://bit.ly/15nkzXA )

Work each day to serve others, and to Seek out Christ, so that at the last day, we will be like him, possessed of Charity towards all. And along the way, we will enjoy the love of God in our lives.

The Beginning and the end, the Redeemer of the World

"I am Alpha and Omega, Christ the Lord; yea, even I am he, the beginning and the end, the Redeemer of the world.

I, having accomplished and finished the will of him whose I am, even the Father, concerning me—having done this that I might subdue all things unto myself—" (D&C 19:1-2 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/19.1-2 )

The Savior has overcome all things so that we can return home again, and so that here we may be comforted, strengthened, helped, encouraged, and may feel of God's love in all ways and in all righteous things.

All the tender feelings of the spirit, all of the miracles that happen, all of the love we feel and the good we do are made possible by the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

And because of that, we may inherit all the Father has.

Samuel's Powerful Testimony of Christ

Listen to some of the words of Samuel the Lamanite about coming to Christ.  These same words echo to us today;

"nothing can save this people save it be repentance and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ, who surely shall come into the world, and shall suffer many things and shall be slain for his people.

And behold, an angel of the Lord hath declared it unto me, and he did bring glad tidings to my soul. And behold, I was sent unto you to declare it unto you also, that ye might have glad tidings; but behold ye would not receive me...

But if ye will repent and return unto the Lord your God I will turn away mine anger, saith the Lord; yea, thus saith the Lord, blessed are they who will repent and turn unto me, but wo unto him that repenteth not." (more at https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/hel/13.6-7,11)

Where are we on this scale?  Are we valiant in our testimony of the truth, or do we need to repent in areas of our lives to bring our lives more in harmony with what the Lord teaches?

President Benson said we live in an age similar to the times of Samuel the Lamanite, and 3rd Nephi, and so it is important that we dedicate ourselves to the Savior, and live our lives in his service to prepare for his second coming.

May we ever do that.  For in that service is the true joy of life.

The Love of Our Anointed One, our Holy Messiah

"Anointed One" comes from Hebrew and means "Messiah." "Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace and truth." (2 Nephi 2:6 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/2-ne/2.6 ).

"And he shall be called Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning;" (Mosiah 3:8 http://bit.ly/1gIo164 )

I know the Savior, Jesus Christ lives. He is real, and works today for our salvation.  Salvation comes only through that Sacred Anointed one, the Savior, Jesus Christ.  As President Monson says, "He is our Redeemer, he is our mediator with the Father.  He loves us with a love we cannot comprehend.  And because he loves us, he gave his life for us" (Looking back and Moving Forward, General Conference April 2008 https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2008/04/looking-back-and-moving-forward).

Come to know him yourself through the scriptures, listening to apostles and prophets, and through prayer.   Follow his teachings, and become like him, and you will inherit eternal life. Sacrifice other things in your life that are not as important and seek to do the will of the Lord.  Go to the temple more often, serve others more often, and you will find the joy that comes from him, a joy that is unspeakable, and emanates from The Anointed one.

The Sacred Life and Mission of Jesus Christ, the Living Savior

The Life of the Living Savior.  Over 2 millenia ago, a tiny baby was born into the most humble of circumstances. This royal son, the only begotten of the Father, was not clothed in silken robes, but was wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger. He was prophecied of by many ancient prophets. He was the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Truly unto us a child was born, and the Government of Heaven and earth was upon his shoulders. His name truly is Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.

Of his kingdom there is no end, for his coming into the world had been planned from before the foundations of the world, and the effects of his life will give life to all of humankind and will stretch into the eternities and beyond.

But his life was not to be easy. He taught with power, performed miracles, and showed the love of God to all he met. Yet the Pharisees and Saduccees, instead of accepting him as the promised Messiah, said his miracles were done by the power of the Devil.

But this was foretold as well. As Isaiah says, he was despised, rejected, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief…surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows…and with his stripes we are healed.

Betrayed by his own, abandoned by all, he faced the indescribable agony of the atonement, where his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling to the ground. Then he faced the abuse of the Jewish leaders, the flogging of the Roman troops, and yet meekly he still succumbed to the horrors of crucifixion.

He was laid to rest in a borrowed tomb. During that time he went to his father, and to the world of the Spirits of the just. He organized his work there, that others might know of the good news of his triumph over sin and death.

After 3 days, the prison doors were rent, and he became the firstfruits of them that slept. Angels rolled back the door of the tomb, and reported he is not here, he is risen, and beckoned all who came to the tomb to come and see the place where the Lord lay.

He appeared to many, apostles and disciples alike, and then went to visit the other sheep in his fold, the people of the Americas and other places. Prophets in those places had testified of his coming and death, had seen in vision what the Savior, the fulfillment of prophecy, would do.

He taught them his gospel, and organized his church there, with all of the saving ordinances that he brought to the old world, and then ascended into heaven.

This once tiny baby still lives today as the Savior and Redeemer of the World. And he has restored his gospel, once lost for millennia, to the earth today. The lord whom ye seek has suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant.

Prophecies are again being fulfilled at his hand, inspiring the minds and hearts of men and women all over the world. His greatest desire is to draw men to him so that they might feel of the love of God that emanates from him. That each person on the face of the earth might feel of his love through the spirit. The fullness of his New Testament Gospel is again on the Earth, to bless the lives of all who come unto him. And it touches each individual heart with the tenderness of a God who is aware of each of us, and involved in our lives more than we know, but can if we open our hearts to him, and do his work.

He said to Peter that if he loved him to feed his sheep. There are many out there who need the bread and water of life. As the prophet says, we are God’s hands on earth, with a mandate to serve. As we serve others, they are able to feel of the love of God as well. It softens them.

This is one of the keys that Christ knew, and was willing to give his life for. He tirelessly served others, and as we serve others too, we will come to know this great key to happiness in this life and in the next. And we will become like Christ as we do.

When we meet him face to face, how wonderful a time that will be for us as we see that we have become like him. To embrace him and to join with him in rejoicing as we realize that we have been dependent upon him our whole lives, and his power has lifted us, and will for eternity.

And how wonderful it will be to know that those whose lives we have touched will also be able to dwell with the Savior and us again. That is the secret of life. To become connected to those around us, bound together by the Love of the Savior.

That is just a few parts of what the birth of the Savior means to us. His gospel is on the earth again, and to find out more, go to http://www.mormon.org/

"They did humble themselves before the Lord"-Nephi's Broken Bow

May we all have the faith of Nephi. "And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did make out of wood a bow, and out of a straight stick, an arrow; wherefore, I did arm myself with a bow and an arrow, with a sling and with stones. And I said unto my father: Whither shall I go to obtain food?

And it came to pass that he did inquire of the Lord, for they had humbled themselves because of my words; for I did say many things unto them in the energy of my soul.

And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord said unto him: Look upon the ball, and behold the things which are written.

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld the pointers which were in the ball, that they did work according to the faith and diligence and heed which we did give unto them.

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did go forth up into the top of the mountain, according to the directions which were given upon the ball.

And it came to pass that I did slay wild beasts, insomuch that I did obtain food for our families.

And it came to pass that I did return to our tents, bearing the beasts which I had slain; and now when they beheld that I had obtained food, how great was their joy! And it came to pass that they did humble themselves before the Lord, and did give thanks unto him. (1 Nephi 16:23-24, 26, 28, 30-32 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/16.23-24,26,28,30-32 )

Elder Faust relates when he first because acquainted with the Savior

Here is a story from someone who heard Elder Faust speak at a stake conference of his experience with the Savior.

"After relating this parable to us, he grew silent. I have never seen a General Authority not immediatly regain himself after being choked up. But there was a long silence as he reached for a tissue. He then said "It has been about 25 years when I first became acquanted with the Savior. It is a very sacred experience that I don't relate to people. It is to sacred to me. I was totally purged of every worldly desire when this happened. It was through this experience that I can say that I know that Jesus is the Christ and that God lives. It is through this experience that I can say I am one of the special witnesses of Christ". He was VERY emotional while he was relating this to us. He then proceeded to give an apostolic blessing to those present.
I have known many great spiritual people in my life, but none that hold a candle to this man. I have never felt such a power in the presence of another as I did today. There was power spoken, not words. I have never felt that kind of love before, nor seen such a reflection of what our Savior is like." –Tyler Livingston

The apostles and prophets are special witnesses of Christ, who have seen him, and know of his reality and divinity.  May we ever remember that.

"God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes"

"God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes" Message by Simon Dewey, the artist of this picture "Each of us experience times of sorrowful tears, disappointment, and heartache. As with this little child, Jesus reaches out to us and asks – as he did Mary Magdalane at the tomb – “why weepest thou?”

Regardless of the reason for our suffering, He is able to comfort us. The well and the water bucket in the painting symbolize His ability to provide us with Living Water and the early morning light reminds us of the hope that shines after even the darkest of nights. If we will follow the example of this young child, meek and humble, the Savior will encircle us with His love and dry the tears of our sorrow." ~ Simon Dewey

"Come unto me, all ye that Labour and are heavy laden..."

Today's message and picture come from Liz Lemon Swindle, the artist, who has rheumatoid arthritis, and continues to paint even though every brushstroke is painful. "Early in His ministry, Jesus sat on the shores of Galilee and said to the multitudes, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden... take my yoke upon you, and learn of me... and you shall find rest unto your souls."
(Matthew 11:28-29)

We each feel "heavy laden" at times and pray the Lord will take away our burdens. But rather than remove our sufferings the Lord instead asks us to walk alongside Him yoked together. It is only as we walk with Him we come to learn who He is and how much He loves us. While our burdens are still upon our shoulders, when we walk together with the Lord and let Him carry them our burdens feel lighter and we find the rest He gives so freely."

The Resurrection and the Life

Before the Savior raised Lazarus from the dead he said "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:" (John 11:25 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/11.25 )

We will all live again, and will have the chance to return to the presence of our Father in Heaven, if we will but turn to the Savior, he who is our Redeemer, our Advocate with the Father, and in whom is power over all things through love. May we ever come and follow him.

Jesus Christ loves each of us with a love we cannot comprehend, but can feel.  The same power that moves the heavens and the earth is the same power that has the ability to touch our hearts and help us be comforted through the spirit.  It lifts and enlivens and strengthens us as we believe in him, and live, both in the spirit, and physically again.

God is with us, more than we know, and he will help us in every way to return back to him with our families, and live forever.  In the gift of his son he placed all power to accomplish that if we turn to him.

Enter into the joy of thy Lord

Can we imagine at the end of our lives, being welcomed back to our heavenly home, into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ, to dwell with him and our Father in Heaven together with our families forever? To feel of our Savior's love as he embraces us. May he say unto us, as in the parable of the talents;

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." (Matthew 25:23 http://bit.ly/15yZetf )

And in the Book of Mormon "Yea, verily I say unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those who come unto me " (3 Nephi 9:14 http://bit.ly/17A6NCE )

The Savior Pleads for us to come unto him.  He knows if we do, we will return to him and our heavenly parents, together with our families, ancestors, and posterity.  What a joyous reunion that will be.  And we will forever be engaged in lifting and strengthening others in the same work the Master does.  May we ever come unto the Savior, and find the living water.

Eternity with our Good Shepherd

"I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.  As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.  And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd." -St. John 10:14-16

The Savior truly is the Good Shepherd, and he gave his life so that we could live again with him, our heavenly parents, and our families, ancestors, and posterity.  May we ever be grateful for a loving, kind, succoring Savior who has redeemed us.  He is always there for us as we reach out in prayers of faith.

We can best show our love to our Savior by serving and lifting others.  The Savior has said that as we serve others, we are serving him, and President Eyring has stated that as we lift others, it is as if we were lifting the Savior.

May we ever be in the work of serving and lifting others.  For if we do, we will feel the love of the Good Shepherd encompass us, and fill our souls with a joy beyond compare in this life, and eternal life in the life to come.

The Miracle of the Book of Mormon

The Translation of the Book of Mormon was a miracle. From the scribe, Oliver Cowdery; “These were days never to be forgotten—to sit under the sound of a voice dictated by the inspiration of heaven, awakened the utmost gratitude of this bosom! Day after day I continued, uninterrupted, to write from his mouth, as he translated with the Urim and Thummim, or, as the Nephites would have said, ‘Interpreters,’ the history or record called ‘The Book of Mormon.’ (JSH 1:75 available at https://www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1.75)

The Book of Mormon isn't merely an interesting read, or an intellectual marvel, though it does fit those descriptions.  It is the word of God, given to prophets and translated by the Gift and Power of God.  It contains parts of Christ's Gospel that were lost from Biblical times.  It is the fulfillment of prophecies about the Latter Days.

President Ezra Taft Benson said the Book of Mormon is for us, in our day.  May we read it, ponder its words, and with the Bible, be enriched by the Word of God.  It's translation was a miracle, its being with us a marvel, and its words the words of life.

The Reality and Life of the Savior, Jesus Christ and how we can know him

From Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ, men who have seen the Resurrected Savior: "Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God...He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come." (The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles http://bit.ly/1bAqOhI )

And from the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery "And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives! For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father— That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God." (Doctrine and Covenants 76:22-24 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/76.22-24 )

Jesus Christ is real, he lives, and he is the only way to return to our Heavenly Parents.  He was prophesied of by many Old Testament and Book of Mormon prophets, he came in the meridian of time and taught his gospel, taught us by example how to love, worked miracles, raised the dead, organized his church, and finally, in the garden and on the cross, atoned for our sins.  Truly he was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities.

He rose again the third day, and appeared to many. Those apostles and witnesses testified of him until they were killed for that testimony, and the world plunged into the great apostasy.  And those who had seen him in the Americas similarly lost the gospel.  But God guided humankind in other ways, so that the gospel could be restored later.  On a brilliant morning, he and his Father appeared to a 14 year-old prophet, and through this and subsequent revelations and visitations, the Gospel was restored, with all of the blessings of previous dispensations.

Temples now dot the earth, and the elect are being gathered from the 4 corners of the earth. The gospel is again on the earth, never to be taken away.  Christ stands at the head of this church, yet is so personal that he can touch the tenderest parts of our hearts.  We know that through the spirit, and in other ways.

As we pray to know that he lives, and loves us, may we feel of his love as we pray. For he is real, and we are meant to know of him, for those are the real blessings of the Restoration-that we, as the Prophet Joseph and Prophets of old, may come to know Christ, even if we do not see him.

At some future day, Christ will come again to rule and reign upon the earth.  But may we be able to say at that time, as did Bruce R McKonkie at the end of his life, "I will not know any better then than I know now that he is God's almighty Son" At that day when we see him, may we already know him and love him, as we "wet his feet with our tears."

And at the day of judgement, when we stand face to face with him, may we find it to be, as President Eyring said "a time of joy for those who have spent their lives in his service."  May we serve him, and serve others so that we may embrace him, feel of his love for us, and have him take all of our pains away.

The Savior longs to bless us in our lives.  May we reach out to him in Faith, and serve others, and he will bless us to know that he lives, through the spirit.

"Not my will, but thine, be done"-The Savior's sacrifice for us

The Savior prayed to the Father "Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done...and being in agony, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground"

His purpose for coming here, the atonement, was upon him, and he drank that bitter cup. His agony was so great that he went beyond what mortal man is able to endure, and afterwards went through the mockery of the Roman guards, and the pains of Calvary's cross.

Love was the reason for this. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life"

The Savior was obedient in all things that were asked of him, and because of that, we can return and live with him and our heavenly parents again. The Lord doesn't ask us to go through what the Savior went through, just wants us to be obedient to his commandments, and turn to him in our trials. May we remember the sacrifice of the Savior, and as we pray to our Father in Heaven in gratitude for the Savior's sacrifice, may we feel of his love for us.

And when we have trials that we must endure, may we turn to God, as the Savior did, and humbly say "not my will, but thine be done." If we do, we will be exalted on high.

Endowed with power in the presence of God

“Your endowment is, to receive all those ordinances in the house of the Lord, which are necessary for you, after you have departed this life, to enable you to walk back to the presence of the Father, … and gain your eternal exaltation.” Brigham Young in Discourses of Brigham Young, sel. John A. Widtsoe (1941), 416.

In temples we become connected to our families and to God forever, and when we go there we are able to feel of the presence of the Lord. The spirit in temples is stronger than in any other place on earth. While there we can perform sacred ordinances for our ancestors that are necessary for them to return to the presence of God.  What a marvellous plan this is.  As Elder Packer has said, "the mind of man could not conceive it."

The Lord has said about his temples "my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God" (D & C 97:15-16 http://bit.ly/14GTNd6 )

May we go to the temple often, to do the work for our dead, so that those who have gone before us can return to the presence of their Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ, and so that we may be able to feel of the presence of the Lord ourselves as we go there.

"I am the life and the light of the World"

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I am the life and the light of the world. I am the same who came unto mine own and mine own received me not;

But verily, verily, I say unto you, that as many as receive me, to them will I give power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on my name. Amen."

May we all become the sons and daughters of God, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. May we follow him, emulate him, and at the end, return back to him and our Father in Heaven again.

Part of becoming the sons and daughters of God means being able to be comforted.  The Savior's love can reach the furthest part of the hardest heart, and can give comfort to the tenderest soul. He knows each of us individually, and is involved in the details of our lives in a way we cannot comprehend. He is there. He is real.

May we ever remember that.

Love One Another: The Church's 14-Day Challenge

Love is in the air. Well, maybe not for you. But it could be.

With the appearance of heart-shaped boxes of chocolates, cupid candies, valentine cards, and lovey-dovey stuffed animals on store shelves across America, it’s clear that in the United States, there is a definite commercialization of love during the month of February.

But love isn’t confined to a month. Love is not dependent on relationship status. In fact, it’s not about one day. It’s about every day.

In the words of our loving prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, “Love is the very essence of the gospel, and Jesus Christ is our Exemplar.”

If we want to be better followers of Him, we need to be more. We need to LOVE more.

To focus on the essence of the gospel and ensure that “love is the air,” we invite you to participate in our 14-day challenge to love one another.
