The Redeemer of the World

Read the powerful message about this picture by the artist, Howard Lyon.

For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee. - Proverbs 23:11

As I was drawing this piece, I imagined an encounter with Christ.  I pictured the Savior’s face and what it would be like to look into His eyes.  I thought of His humble birth and the crucifixion.  I tried to visualize Him at Gethsemane and resurrected at the garden tomb.  His life was one of contrasts, a King of Kings born in a manger.  He had the power to command the elements, but he condescended to redeem us all.

This drawing was done with charcoal and white chalk.  Charcoal has been used by artists for thousands of years.  It is the humblest of drawing tools.  Wood is consumed by fire and then compressed into sticks.  It makes a rich black pigment.  The white chalk is also an ancient drawing tool and is a perfect and pure white.  It provides a contrast with the charcoal that adds depth to the drawing.

It reminded me of the symbolism of the burnt offering, wherein the pure and perfect sacrifice was placed on the altar and completely consumed by the flames.  Christ, the Son of God, lived humbly and placed his perfection upon the altar of Gethsemane in our behalf, doing what we could not.  Through His offering, that which is stained and burnt becomes pure and white.-Howard Lyon

The Savior's invitation to 'Abide with Me'

How often do we live our lives so that the Savior would be welcome?  How often do we invite him to Abide with us?  I think of the second verse of the sacred hymn "Abide with me;"

Abide with me; 'tis eventide.
Thy walk today with me
Has made my heart within me burn,
As I communed with thee.
Thy earnest words have filled my soul
And kept me near thy side.

O Savior, stay this night with me;
Behold, 'tis eventide.
O Savior, stay this night with me;
Behold, 'tis eventide.

Not just before bedtime, but always, may we invite the Savior to abide with us, to watch over us, to comfort us, to lift us, and to help us to become better.  As we serve others, and as we seek to know the Savior, through the spirit, we will come to know him better, and will feel a joy beyond compare.

And then, at the last day, he will be there to welcome us back to the presence of the Father where we will abide with our heavenly parents, our Savior, our families, our ancestors, and our posterity forever.

"Greater Love hath no man than this..."

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)

Christ meekly fulfilled the Father's will, both in the Garden and on the Cross, and because of the love he had for us and the Father, "partook and finished [his] preparations to the children of men" (D&C 19:19)

This same Christ had so much love in his heart that he prayed the soldiers who were taunting and crucifying him, would be forgiven, because they knew not what they did.

While in Agony, because of the Love he had in his heart, He had compassion on the malefactor and told him he would be with him in paradise.

He showed then, and he continues to show today how much he loves all, and how he longs for them to come unto him and be healed, strengthened, encouraged, have their burdens lifted, and sins forgiven.

As Psalms 62:8 says, may we pour out our hearts to him, for he is our refuge.  He knows our pains, our trials, and will comfort us.

He invitation is the greatest invitation known-from God to us "come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).

May we come to him, and in him find rest.  He will ever be there to strengthen us, lift us, and provide help when we need it.  Just turn to him.

The Beginning of the Restoration of the Book of Mormon

"Not only was his robe exceedingly white, but his whole person was glorious beyond description, and his countenance truly like lightning... He called me by name, and said unto me that he was a messenger sent from the presence of God to me, and that his name was Moroni; that God had a work for me to do...He said there was a book deposited, written upon gold plates, giving an account of the former inhabitants of this continent, and the source from whence they sprang. He also said that the fulness of the everlasting Gospel was contained in it, as delivered by the Savior to the ancient inhabitants" (Joseph Smith-History 1:32-34 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1.32-34)

Moroni did appear to the Prophet Joseph Smith, to prepare him for the work he would do in translating the Book of Mormon by the Gift and Power of God.  May we ever be grateful for the gift of the Book of Mormon.  May we read, study, and ponder the words on its pages, and feel the spirit impress its truths on our hearts.

Nurtured by the word is nurtured by Christ

May we give thanks, and be nurtured by the spirit ourselves by feasting on the Word of God and feeling of the spirit that attends that.  "He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks" (Romans 14:6 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/rom/14.6)

Each of us is as a seed, sown in good soil, and as we reach out, the Lord nourishes us, so that we grow and bring forth fruit.  May we ever do that.

The Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven

When asked by his disciples who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven, the Savior took a child, and said that whosoever humbleth himself as a little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  See the Savior teach about this below

May we all become as little children.  Teachable, humble, and trustingly obedient to our Father in Heaven.

"I am the Good Shepherd [who] giveth his life for the sheep"

The Savior is the Good Shepherd, and at the link below declares that he gives his life for the sheep.  He also states (which the people didn't understand) that other sheep he has which are not of this fold, and that he will bring them, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.  The Savior is the door.  May we ever be grateful for him. The Declaration at the well; The Messiah Lives!

Said the Savior to the woman at the well; "Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

The Savior and the woman speak some more, and later..."The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he."

Such a wonderful passage.  The Savior declared that he was the promised Messiah, and then fulfilled all of the Biblical prophecies.  He lived a sinless life, taught his gospel, atoned for our sins, and rose from the dead so all may.  The Savior still lives, and is real.  He is the promised Messiah, and still works today for our Salvation.  He will ever comfort us, and as President Monson has said, he is in the details of our lives.

May we, as the woman at the well, have the Savior declare himself to us, only for us it is through the spirit.  That way we can know that he lives, and loves us.

The Sacred Record passes from Immortal to mortal hands

After 4 years of preparation, Joseph obtains the plates from Moroni, and the sacred record passes from immortal to mortal hands for translation.  "On the twenty-second day of September, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-seven, having gone as usual at the end of another year to the place where they were deposited, the same heavenly messenger delivered them up to me with this charge: that I should be responsible for them...if I would use all my endeavors to preserve them, until he, the messenger, should call for them, they should be protected" (https://www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1.59)

The translation of the Book of Mormon was a miracle.  A boy with a third grade education who couldn't spell was the instrument through which God translated the Book of Mormon from the Gold plates.  On occasion during translating, Joseph and his scribes were often in the presence of Glorified Beings, as reported in historical accounts.  God was instrumental in the translation, and in 60 short days, the transcript was ready for publishing.

A total of 12 people were permitted to see the plates and handle them, and 3 of those people were shown those plates by an angel of the Lord.  This angel was a resurrected, Glorified messenger from God.  Only an angel from God could hold the plates as described by the three witnesses.

Read the testimony of these three witnesses online at https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/three and then after that click "next" to read the testimony of 8 witnesses.

Prophets in the Book of Mormon who saw Christ

"And now I, Nephi, write more of the words of Isaiah, for my soul delighteth in his words. For I will liken his words unto my people, and I will send them forth unto all my children, for he verily saw my Redeemer, even as I have seen him.

And my brother, Jacob, also has seen him as I have seen him; wherefore, I will send their words forth unto my children to prove unto them that my words are true. Wherefore, by the words of three, God hath said, I will establish my word. Nevertheless, God sendeth more witnesses, and he proveth all his words.

Behold, my soul delighteth in proving unto my people the truth of the coming of Christ." (2 Nephi 11:2-4 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/2-ne/11.2-4)

Not Just Nephi and Jacob and Isaiah, but also King Lamoni reports "For as sure as thou livest, behold, I have seen my Redeemer." and later testifies of him boldly.  (Alma 19:13 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/19.13

As the Lord spoke with the prophets, he told them what to include in the Book of Mormon for our day.  We have Moroni saying this: "Behold, I speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and I know your doing," and saying that he was commanded to write these things for our benefit in our day. (Mormon 8:35 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/morm/8.35

If we will follow the words of the prophets in the Book of Mormon, those men who saw Christ and taught his gospel, we will be able to return back to the presence of Christ and the Father, and we will be able to exclaim as Enos

"And I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer; for I know that in him I shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand before him; then shall I see his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me: Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father. Amen." (Enos 1:27 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/enos/1.27).

"The Perfect, divine expression of fatherhood is..."

"The perfect, divine expression of fatherhood is our Heavenly Father. His character and attributes include abundant goodness and perfect love. His work and glory are the development, happiness, and eternal life of His children.6 Fathers in this fallen world can claim nothing comparable to the Majesty on High, but at their best, they are striving to emulate Him, and they indeed labor in His work. They are honored with a remarkable and sobering trust." -D Todd Christofferson (Read more at https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2016/04/fathers)

How we invite the Lord into our lives

Are we letting the Savior in to our homes and into our lives? “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20).

We let the Savior in when we put aside the digital distractions, stop focusing on the things of the world.  Instead, we study his words in the scriptures or from prophets, we serve others.  We help to lift and encourage others, and we listen to music and watch movies that invite his spirit in.

Then we are letting the Savior into our lives. And the peace that comes into our lives at that time is more welcome than water to a sun-dried earth.  More peaceful than a placid lake.  And it will fill our hearts with joy.

May we ever let him in.

The Good Shepherd who calls us to his peace

"Behold, I say unto you, that the good shepherd doth call you; yea, and in his own name he doth call you, which is the name of Christ" (Alma 5:38 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/5.38)

Christ has in other scripture called for us to come unto him.  He laments when we do not come unto him, as he did for those of Jerusalem, saying how he would have gathered them as a hen gathereth her chickens and they would not.

The only place of sure safety is with our Good Shepherd.  His atonement will reconcile us to God, and will last forever.  We are forever in his debt.

He states in other scriptures, such as Revelations and more, that as we come unto him, he will give us rest, and peace.  Not as the world gives, but as only he can give.  May we ever come unto the Savior, and in him find peace from the cares, trials, difficulties, and sins of the world.  His atonement delivers us from these.

Read in the scriptures, pour out your hearts in prayer, and feel of the love and peace the Lord offers through the spirit.  And it will lead us back to our heavenly home.

A Sense of the Sacred-Appreciating Holy Things

Read these powerfully sacred words, from Elder D Todd Christofferson.

"If one does not appreciate holy things, he will lose them. Absent a feeling of reverence, he will grow increasingly casual in attitude and lax in conduct. He will drift from the moorings that his covenants with God could provide. His feeling of accountability to God will diminish and then be forgotten. Thereafter, he will care only about his own comfort and satisfying his uncontrolled appetites. Finally, he will come to despise sacred things, even God, and then he will despise himself.

With a sense of the sacred, one grows in understanding and truth. The Holy Spirit becomes his frequent and then constant companion. More and more he will stand in holy places and be entrusted with holy things. Just the opposite of cynicism and despair, his end is eternal life.

A sense of the sacred cannot really be passed from one person to another. It must grow from within. Think about things in a contemplative way; then the Spirit may work in you so that you will not need anyone to tell you what is sacred or how to respond—you will feel it for yourself. It will be part of your nature; indeed, much of it already is." #HisDay

"Believe in God;believe that he is..."

"Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend. And again, believe that ye must repent of your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves before God; and ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you; and now, if you believe all these things see that ye do them" (Mosiah 4:9-10 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/mosiah/4.9-10

God is over all.  He is always there.  In him is the perfection of Faith and the Hope of our Salvation.  Repent, and come unto him, and you will feel the sweet peace of his love for you.  Turn to him when you need comfort, and he will be there for you.

When you pray, let the Father know that you love him, and that you love Christ, and take a moment to feel of their love for you.  For it is real and brings life and meaning to life.  It wipes all other cares away for a bit.  For we are his children, and his arm of mercy is stretched out to us all the day long, as the scripture says.

What we do and become in the temple

May we attend the temple often to feel of the presence of the Lord, and to do the work for those who came before us.

President Hinckley has said that the work we do for the dead in the Temple is the closest we can come to the Sacrifice the Savior made for us, because we are doing things for others that they cannot do for themselves. We become Saviors on Mount Zion.

President Benson has similarly said "Ours is the privilege of opening the doors of salvation to those souls who may be imprisoned in darkness in the world of spirits, that they may receive the light of the gospel and be judged the same as we."

Additionally, we can go to the temple to feel of his presence. "And inasmuch as my people build a house unto me in the name of the Lord...my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God" (D & C 97:15-16 http://bit.ly/14GTNd6 )

President Benson also said the following about the temple:  "The temple ceremony was given by a wise Heavenly Father to help us become more Christlike.

We will not be able to dwell in the company of celestial beings unless we are pure and holy. The laws and ordinances which cause men and women to come out of the world and become sanctified are administered only in these holy places. They were given by revelation and are comprehended by revelation."

He has also said "The veil is very thin. We are living in eternity. All is as with one day with God. I imagine that to the Lord there is no veil. It is all one great program. I am sure there is rejoicing in heaven as we meet [in the temple]. Our progenitors are rejoicing, and my hope and prayer is that we will take advantage of the opportunities now afforded us to come regularly to the temple."

May we ever attend the temple, the House of the Lord, and be filled with the spirit as we do.

"I am the good shepherd..."

"I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.  As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.  And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd." -John 10:14-16

The Savior truly is the Good Shepherd, and he gave his life so that we could live again with him, the Father, and our families.  May we ever be grateful for a loving, kind, succoring Savior who has redeemed us.

Do we realized the import of his sacrifice for us?  Do we know, deep in our souls, that he has redeemed us?  Do we pour out our hearts to the Father in his name, so that our burdens and sins may be lifted?

May we ever do so.

"the words that will bring us joy: ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant.’"

“I bear testimony that Jesus is the living Christ, whose Atonement makes it possible for us to be purified and so be worthy of the companionship of the Holy Ghost.

“I testify that with our faith and diligence, we can one day hear the words that will bring us joy: ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant.’”  —President Henry B. Eyring (https://www.lds.org/prophets-and-apostles/unto-all-the-world/president-eyring-testifies-of-jesus-christ)

Jesus Christ is our Redeemer, who stands at the right hand of the Father. He continues to work today for our salvation, and is at the head of the Church, and today apostles and prophets testify of his reality and divinity.

As we pour out our hearts to Our Father in Heaven in Prayer, may we express our gratitude and love for our Savior, Jesus Christ, for it is because of him that we can approach him in prayer, and receive answers to the deepest stirrings of our hearts.

He is there, and his love for us is beyond comprehension, and can be felt as we come unto him, and more importantly, serve others.  May we ever serve others, so that, as President Eyring quoted from the Bible, we may hear the words, 'well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.' (Matthew 25:21, 23 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/25.21)

"'til these hands become like those from galilee"

May we all make our hands like those from Galilee.

his hands
tools of creation
stronger than nations
power without end
and yet through them we find our truest friend
his hands
sermons of kindness
healing men's blindness
halting years of pain
children waiting to be held again

his hands would serve his whole life through
showing man what hands might do
giving, ever giving, endlessly
each day was filled with selflessness
and i'll not rest until i make of my hands what they could be
'til these hands become like those from galilee

his hands
lifting a leper
warming a beggar
calling back the dead
breaking bread, five thousand fed
his hands
hushing contention
pointing to heaven
ever free of sin
then bidding man to follow him

his hands would serve his whole life through
showing man what hands might do
giving, ever giving, endlessly
each day was filled with selflessness
and i'll not rest until i make of my hands what they could be
'til these hands become like those from galilee

his hands
clasped in agony
as he he lay pleading, bleeding in the garden
while just moments away
other hands betray him
out of greed, shameful greed
and then his hands
are trembling
straining to carry the beam that they've been nailed to
as he stumbles through the streets
heading for the hill on which he'd die
he would die
they take his hands, his mighty hands, those gentle hands
and then they pierce them, they pierce them
he lets them, because of love
from birth to death was selflessness
and clearly now i see him with his hands
calling to me
and though i'm not yet as i would be
he has shown me how i could be
i'll make my hands like those from galilee

The beginning of the Restoration of Christ's Church on the earth

After retiring to the woods to ask God which church was right, the following happened- In Joseph's words "I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!"

Joseph Smith saw God the Father and his son, Jesus Christ, and was the instrument through which God restored the same New Testament church to the earth again in its purity, once lost in Apostasy. You can read more about that by clicking the link below to read this history, or read the Book of Mormon online now.

"Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified..."

"And behold, the third time they did understand the voice which they heard; and it said unto them: Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him.

And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them

And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying:

Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.

And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning (3 Nephi 11:6-8 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/11.6-8)

These passages bring such peace, as we read the Savior's words as he taught his New Testament Gospel to the Saints in the Americas, healed their sick, and blessed them and their children.  May we all be grateful for the gift of the Book of Mormon in our own lives and study the words of Christ in its pages, along with the Bible.

Lessons from the Road to Emmaus

"And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.

And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon." (Luke 24:30-34)

The spirit testifies of Christ.  May we all have the spirit testify to us of the truths taught by Christ in the scriptures, and we will have the same testimony that the two men on Emmaeus Road did.  After seeing the Savior and speaking with him, yet not knowing him, afterwards they recognized the spirit which had borne witness of the truth of his words.

The Biblical account of Jesus Baptizing others

Please take a moment to read the powerful biblical story of this painting from the artist.  "There are many interesting stories from the New Testament and artists have painted them for hundreds of years and yet, there is one story that has never been painted.

“After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.” (John 3:22)

I was commissioned by Jerel D. Lindley to paint the story of Christ baptizing his disciples. It makes sense to me that as the greatest example, not only was He baptized, but He performed baptism for those who accepted His gospel. He showed His disciples the way.

“And they came unto John (the Baptist), and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.” (John 3:26)...

When “Jesus Himself Baptized” it was his great witness and testimony that he was the Promised Messiah sent to restore all things and establish a new gospel dispensation.

As the artist, my task was to capture the moment and emotion, as Jesus immerses one of his closest disciples.  A tear falls across her cheek. The Apostles, with other disciples, watch intently from the bank of the Jordan River. Jesus is the Great Exemplar, whose example they would follow in performing more baptisms than would Jesus.

Who is Jesus baptizing in the painting?  Though the Bible is silent, it was probably someone very close to His heart." - Jon McNaughton

May we study the scriptures as Lehi did

"And after they had given thanks unto the God of Israel, my father, Lehi, took the records which were engraven upon the plates of brass, and he did search them from the beginning.

And he beheld that they did contain the five books of Moses, which gave an account of the creation of the world, and also of Adam and Eve, who were our first parents;

And also a record of the Jews from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah;

And also the prophecies of the holy prophets, from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah; and also many prophecies which have been spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah.

And it came to pass that my father, Lehi, also found upon the plates of brass a genealogy of his fathers; wherefore he knew that he was a descendant of Joseph; yea, even that Joseph who was the son of Jacob, who was sold into Egypt, and who was preserved by the hand of the Lord, that he might preserve his father, Jacob, and all his household from perishing with famine.

And they were also led out of captivity and out of the land of Egypt, by that same God who had preserved them.

And thus my father, Lehi, did discover the genealogy of his fathers.

And now when my father saw all these things, he was filled with the Spirit" (1 Nephi 5:10-17 http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/5.10-17)

May we be as Lehi, and search the scriptures, and find the blessings of the Lord therein.  May the spirit touch our hearts as we read in the scriptures, and may it lead us closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ, and be filled with the spirit, as was Lehi.

To be welcomed back home

May we all look forward to that day, after a life of service, when we enter the Kingdom of God.  “Well done, thou good and faithful servant...enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” (Matthew 25:21 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/25.21).

The scriptures further teach “For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.” (Revelations 7:17 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/rev/7.17).

May we seek out the Savior, and follow him, so that we may have peace in this life, and at the end, be welcomed by his warm embrace into the Celestial Kingdom.  We will then be able to dwell with our families, our ancestors, our posterity, and our Heavenly Parents and family forever.  What a wonderful promise.

The Sacred Life and mission of the Living Savior

Over 2 millenia ago, a tiny baby was born into the most humble of circumstances. This royal son, the only begotten of the Father, was not clothed in silken robes, but was wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger. He was prophesied of by many ancient prophets. He was the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Truly unto us a child was born, and the Government of Heaven and earth was upon his shoulders. His name truly is Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.

Of his kingdom there is no end, for his coming into the world had been planned from before the foundations of the world, and the effects of his life will give life to all of humankind and will stretch into the eternities and beyond.

But his life was not to be easy. He taught with power, performed miracles, and showed the love of God to all he met. Yet the Pharisees and Saduccees, instead of accepting him as the promised Messiah, said his miracles were done by the power of the Devil.

But this was foretold as well. As Isaiah says, he was despised, rejected, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief…surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows…and with his stripes we are healed.

Betrayed by his own, abandoned by all, he faced the indescribable agony of the atonement, where his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling to the ground. Then he faced the abuse of the Jewish leaders, the flogging of the Roman troops, and yet meekly he still succumbed to the horrors of crucifixion.

He was laid to rest in a borrowed tomb. During that time he went to his father, and to the world of the Spirits of the just. He organized his work there, that others might know of the good news of his triumph over sin and death.

After 3 days, the prison doors were rent, and he became the firstfruits of them that slept. Angels rolled back the door of the tomb, and reported he is not here, he is risen, and beckoned all who came to the tomb to come and see the place where the Lord lay.

He appeared to many, apostles and disciples alike, and then went to visit the other sheep in his fold, the people of the Americas and other places. Prophets in those places had testified of his coming and death, had seen in vision what the Savior, the fulfillment of prophecy, would do.

He taught them his gospel, and organized his church there, with all of the saving ordinances that he brought to the old world, and then ascended into heaven.

This once tiny baby still lives today as the Savior and Redeemer of the World. And he has restored his gospel, once lost for millennia, to the earth today. The lord whom ye seek has suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant.

Prophecies are again being fulfilled at his hand, inspiring the minds and hearts of men and women all over the world. His greatest desire is to draw men to him so that they might feel of the love of God that emanates from him. That each person on the face of the earth might feel of his love through the spirit. The fullness of his New Testament Gospel is again on the Earth, to bless the lives of all who come unto him. And it touches each individual heart with the tenderness of a God who is aware of each of us, and involved in our lives more than we know, but can if we open our hearts to him, and do his work.

He said to Peter that if he loved him to feed his sheep. There are many out there who need the bread and water of life. As the prophet says, we are God’s hands on earth, with a mandate to serve. As we serve others, they are able to feel of the love of God as well. It softens them.

This is one of the keys that Christ knew, and was willing to give his life for. He tirelessly served others, and as we serve others too, we will come to know this great key to happiness in this life and in the next. And we will become like Christ as we do.

When we meet him face to face, how wonderful a time that will be for us as we see that we have become like him. To embrace him and to join with him in rejoicing as we realize that we have been dependent upon him our whole lives, and his power has lifted us, and will for eternity.

And how wonderful it will be to know that those whose lives we have touched will also be able to dwell with the Savior and us again. That is the secret of life. To become connected to those around us, bound together by the Love of the Savior.

That is just a few parts of what the birth of the Savior means to us.

Trust in the Savior as little children

"learn of me, and be meek and lowly of heart"  May we all be as little children, and learn of the Savior, trusting him and placing our faith solely in him.

How often do we trust our Father in Heaven as little children trust their parents?  One time when I was having a hard time, my 5 year-old daughter came up to me and trustingly said "You need to pray to Jesus to help you."  What a powerful lesson that as we trust our Savior, and become as little children, we will be able to feel of God's love more fully in our lives.

May we ever do that.

The Beatitudes: Peaceful words for Saints in a Troubled World

As we become more like the Savior, we are able to take such comfort in such scriptures as the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the mount:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you (Matthew 5:3-12 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/5.3-12)

Such peaceful words for those saints in a troubled world.  What peace can we find in these words?  to obtain mercy, to be called the children of God, and many more words of peace.  May we prayerfully study those, and remember them, and in them find peace.
